On Fox News’ “Special Report” Monday, political analyst Brit Hume spoke with host Bret Baier and offered his take on the Biden regime’s abjectly flawed energy policy, saying the administration is “perfectly prepared” to keep Americans under the boot of crippling inflation.

“It looks to me as if this is an administration that was willing to sacrifice a lot on the altar of moving away from carbon-based fuels. And, you know, gasoline, obviously oil, coal, natural gas, all those in the interest of trying to save the planet,” Hume said.

“And they seem perfectly prepared to let consumers pay higher prices, perhaps ever-higher prices toward that end,” he continued. “And the consequence of that, I think, is, politically, even if inflation in other areas of the economy subsides, if people are still paying these sky-high, gasoline prices and other fuel prices, the feeling is going to be that this administration brought us inflation and it’s here to stay. Not good politically.”

Whatever gains are made by wage increases are nullified by commensurately rising costs, Hume opined.

Of inflation, he said, “It is about as corrosive a factor in American life as one can imagine, and it has remained at bay for many years now. And here it’s back. And the Fed keeps telling us, no, this is transitory, and maybe it is. But if this administration is going to have an anti-fossil fuels policy that continues to drive energy prices ever higher, they’re not going to be to convince people that inflation is under control …”

Hume went on to address the issue of fracking, in that Republican administrations have largely allowed it while Democrat administrations such as the current one illogically discourage it in the states, only to turn around and beg OPEC to produce more oil for purchase by the U.S.

“This is kind of politically insane to let this go on. And to shut down pipelines and not approve pipelines and end up begging Saudi Arabia to increase its production to offset the loss of energy here at home, I think is not going to sit well with the public. No question about it,” he argued.

Baier agreed and recalled that one of the first things Biden did after taking office was to kill the Keystone Pipeline between America and Canada, then, in the contradictory fashion at which he excels, he gave U.S. approval to the Nord Stream 2 Pipeline serving Russian and German interests in Europe.

Hume noted that the U.S. had achieved remarkable energy independence under the Trump administration, but with Biden’s ill-advised energy strategy, the U.S. will continue to see rising costs not only in fuel but across the board, and that will no doubt reap punishment at the polls for the party in power.

“In my view, it is probably unwise energy policy, and it is absolutely crazy political policy,” he concluded.
