‘Finally’: Charlie Hurt says GOP success in Virginia translates to ‘death of racist politics in America’

The results being seen in the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial races are being interpreted as a damning blow to the Democratic Party and the hard-left politics the party now embraces.

In Virginia, Republican Glenn Youngkin defeated Democratic opponent Terry McAuliffe in the race for Virginia governor, with education and the racially divisive critical race theory being very much on the ballot there. And while they are still counting the votes in the Garden State, the race is currently too close to call. Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli is holding on to a razor-thin lead, giving incumbent Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy a serious run for his money despite Murphy having every advantage, to include 1 million more registered voters.

Ciattarelli’s lead early Wednesday was just 1,193 votes, and we know Democrats can find that many votes in their sleep, but the GOP candidate was also highly dismissive of the toxic critical race theory, saying “we are not going to teach our children to feel guilty.”

Fox News contributor and Washington Times opinion editor Charlie Hurt appeared on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” to offer a potentially encouraging analysis of the good news coming out of Virginia at the time, suggesting that a Youngkin win could signal “the death of racist politics.”

Responding to what host Tucker Carlson said “looks like a pretty big moment,” Hurt countered: “I think it is pretty astonishing and I think what we are looking at right now is a return of sanity to politics.”

“I think the real lesson for tonight could be that we are seeing, finally, at long last, the death of racist politics in America,” he continued. “Finally, you had a guy – and, of course, the way we got here, was things had to get so bad that you had to have a guy come along and call out the fact that you have schools poisoning our children with racist nonsense and say, ‘You know what, this is not American. And you know what? Parents don’t want this.’ And of course, the reaction to that is that people like Terry McAuliffe says, ‘Shut up, parents shouldn’t have any role in this.’ And the voters say, ‘No, actually, you know what? We do have a role in this. And we’re going to blow the doors off this thing and return sanity to politics in America.'”

Carlson replied to note that Hurt lives “in a multiracial community in Virginia, it’s a multiracial state.”

“People seem to get along pretty well actually. They don’t need to have this stuff ground into their face day in and day out. Why are they constantly picking the wound that is healing?” the Fox News host asked.

“Because it is very effective in politics. It turns out, if you can’t have a free and fair debate or open debate about something, things go really bad,” Hurt said.

“So if every time you open your mouth your opponent says, ‘You are a racist, you are racist!’ It turns out, that’s not a hospitable way to have a conversation,” he added. “But you are right, if you go into a hospital in regular, normal Virginia you have people of all races, all creeds, everything, working together to help somebody, to help a patient, for example. There is none of this, but as soon as you turn on the TV, turn on CNN and you listen to Terry McAuliffe, you would think this is the most racist place on earth.”

“It’s not,” Hurt continued. “People are sick and tired of it. I haven’t seen exit polls but I guarantee we will find there are a lot of Democrats who came out and said, ‘You know what, I’m sick and tired of this stuff.’ It is all a distraction for the failures Democrats have, especially in big cities. This is a distraction, and we will put this stuff to bed once and for all.”

Amen.
