The president of a school board in California who dropped the F-bomb after a concerned parent spoke out against mask or vaccine mandates has issued an apology.
The parent seemed, however, to doubt the sincerity of the official’s expression of remorse.
“After her true colors showed last night, there’s no taking that back. She needs to step down,” Lauren Roupoli said. “That’s why the board members are being recalled…because they’re not listening to the parents.”
The incident occurred on Tuesday at a public meeting of the Los Alamitos Unified School District Board of Education in Orange County, Calif.
During the public participation segment on which boards typically impose a strict time limit for each speaker, Roupoli had directed her comments to another board member who had claimed that parents were putting themselves, rather than their kids, first.
“We are vocal because we are our childrens’ biggest advocates. Choose your own path…that was very rude for you to say that parents are selfish,” Roupoli insisted as other parents in the room applauded. The surreptitious expletive by the school board member followed.

In a statement, Marlys Davidson, the board president, explained that “I am deeply sorry for the inappropriate comment that I made in last night’s board meeting. I am going to personally apologize to the speaker who certainly deserves to know that when members of the public address the Board of Education, they must be heard with respect. These are trying times, but trying times demand that we rise to do our best. I reaffirm my commitment to serve our community with dignity and integrity, and I hope they will accept my sincere apology,” KTLA reported.
In a business environment generally (which obviously operates differently than the public sector), when customers or potential consumers reject a product or service, the company typically takes it off the market or fixes it.
That sort of philosophy, for example, does not appear to be extending to school boards around the country, which are often digging in heels despite grassroots opposition from parents to controversial, top-down policies like mandates or divisive critical race theory curriculum or its equivalents.
Such disputes have prompted recall petitions or recall elections of board members in various jurisdictions in America.
As this incident and others seem to have demonstrated, some school board officials have disdain for the members of the community whom they are elected to serve.
Back in February, for example, a San Francisco-area school board member who was unaware that a meeting was still streaming, appeared to profanely criticize parents who wanted schools to reopen for in-person instruction.

Earlier this month, Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom, a far-left Democrat, announced a vaccine mandate for K-12 students in both public and private schools. Last week, the state’s health department reaffirmed a universal indoor mask mandate in K-12 schools.
