As if the country (and the world, for that matter) needed more reasons to call for the removal of Dr. Anthony Fauci from his post, the granting of monies for gain-of-function experiments on drugged beagle dogs might seal his fate.
Republican Nancy Mace of South Carolina said that the more she learns about Fauci, “the worse it gets.”
A bipartisan group of 23 lawmakers led by Mace has submitted a letter demanding answers after a nonprofit group called the White Coat Waste Project, which first pointed out that taxpayer funds were used to finance experiments at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China, also discovered the “cruel” research on the dogs, The Hill reported.
According to the organization, dozens of dogs were purposefully infected with parasites in order to test experimental drugs.
Mace appeared on “Fox News Primetime” Monday to discuss the recent findings with host Brian Kilmeade.
“What we learned recently is Dr. Fauci is sending puppies to slaughter, basically,” she alleged, adding that “a grant worth about $1.68M dollars was spent to take 44 beagle puppies, to take their vocal chords out so the scientists couldn’t hear their cries or their barks. They were then drugged, killed and dissected.”
“Almost $2M dollars to kill 44 beagle puppies,” she said.
The experiments all took place in Tunisia, either in the desert or in laboratories, and Mace argued that no American would tolerate those kinds of experiments happening in the U.S.
“Why are we wasting this kind of money on these kind[s] of barbaric and gruesome scientific experiments on these sweet and innocent animals?” she asked.
The report from the White Coat Waste Project related some of the grisly and inhumane details.
“Our investigators show that Fauci’s NIH division shipped part of a $375,800 grant to a lab in Tunisia to drug beagles and lock their heads in mesh cages filled with hungry sandflies so that the insects could eat them alive,” officials with the nonprofit told The Hill. “They also locked beagles alone in cages in the desert overnight for nine consecutive nights to use them as bait to attract infectious sand flies.”
Kilmeade asked, “How does Anthony Fauci sleep at night?”
“It’s disgusting,” Mace replied. “It’s as if COVID-19 and his lies about COVID-19 were not bad enough, now there’s this.”
“The more I learn about what’s going on with taxpayer dollars and these grants that we’re sending to other countries overseas, literally the worse it gets,” she said.
The letter, which was spearheaded by Mace, also described in detail the gruesome experiments:
“The dogs were all between six and eight months old. The commissioned tests involved injecting and force-feeding the puppies an experimental drug for several weeks, before killing and dissecting them.”
“Of particular concern is the fact that the invoice to NIAID included a line item for ‘cordectomy.’ As you are likely aware, a cordectomy, also known as ‘devocalization,’ involves slitting a dog’s vocal cords in order to prevent them from barking, howling, or crying,” the letter notes further.
“This cruel procedure – which is opposed with rare exceptions by the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, and others – seems to have been performed so that experimenters would not have to listen to the pained cries of the beagle puppies. This is a reprehensible misuse of taxpayer funds.”
The 23 signatories of the bill, nine of whom are Democrats, are as follows:
Reps. Cindy Axne (D-Iowa), Cliff Bentz (R-Ore.), Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), Rick Crawford (R-Ark.), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.), Scott Franklin (R-Fla.), Andrew Garbarino (R-N.Y.), Carlos Gimenez (R-Fla.), Jimmy Gomez (D-Calif.), Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.), Fred Keller (R-Pa.), Ted Lieu (D-Calif.), Lisa McClain (R-Mich.), Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.), Brian Mast (R-Fla.), Scott Perry (R-Pa.), Bill Posey (R-Fla.), Mike Quigley (D-Ill.), Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Calif.), Maria E. Salazar (R-Fla.), Terri Sewell (D-Ala.), Daniel Webster (R-Fla.) and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.).
Fauci has been given a few days to respond to the letter, at which point Mace said they will “ratchet it up” if he has not. However, she feels confident they will receive a response not only from Fauci but from the NIH and the NIAID as well.
