Vindicated Rand Paul responds after NIH details gain-of-function funding in doc, revisiting Fauci lie

A letter to House Oversight Committee ranking member James Comer (R-K) reveals what Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and anyone with a functioning prefrontal cortex has believed for some time: Dr. Anthony Fauci is a liar.

The National Institutes of Health – which oversees NIAID – admitted as much, saying that a “limited experiment” was indeed conducted, despite repeated denials from Fauci.

Sen. Paul, who is revered among conservatives for being the best of the few members of Congress willing to take on the charlatan immunologist, appeared on “Fox News Primetime” Thursday to discuss the not-so-surprising revelation.

Earlier in 2021, Paul accused Fauci of “obfuscating the truth,” at one point asking if the good doctor wished to rescind prior remarks, given that it is a felony to lie to Congress.

The Brooklyn-born doctor and InStyle magazine cover boy replied that “if anyone is lying, it’s you.”

Paul told Fox News host Will Cain that Fauci is much more focused on himself than with the health of the American public and the origin of the COVID virus.

“Five million people died from a virus that came out of a lab — wouldn’t we want to know, wouldn’t we want to prevent this from happening again? This virus is very deadly, what if we had a virus that had a 15% mortality rate?” the senator asked.

Paul, a doctor of ophthalmology, claimed China is already experimenting with a variation of the Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus of the early 2000s – noting that its predecessor had a 50 percent mortality rate.

“They still, to this day, are trying to get around the truth,” Paul said. “They say ‘well it was unexpected that it gained function’.”

In 2012, Fauci went so far as to say that an outbreak could lead to greater discoveries in virology.

“In an unlikely but conceivable turn of events, what if that scientist becomes infected with the virus, which leads to an outbreak and ultimately triggers a pandemic? Many ask reasonable questions: given the possibility of such a scenario – however remote – should the initial experiments have been performed and/or published in the first place, and what were the processes involved in this decision?” he wondered.

“Scientists working in this field might say – as indeed I have said – that the benefits of such experiments and the resulting knowledge outweigh the risks,” he continued, according to the New York Post.

Paul said that Fauci has been purposefully “never fully explain[ing] why [the experiments] are not gain-of-function. His declination is this: it’s inadvertent, we didn’t know they were going to gain function. That is what a gain of function experiment is. You don’t know when you combine two viruses that they will be more deadly but it might be if you have half a brain you know if you combine two viruses it might be more deadly.”

“He’s been parsing words,” he added.

Cain remarked that, unfortunately, much of what Fauci says is regarded as gospel by too many; huge swaths of the populace see him as an infallible savior of sorts.

Paul said that although he and others have referred Dr. Fauci to the Justice Department for investigation, he doesn’t see it going anywhere, given the anti-citizen agenda embarked upon by the Biden regime and Attorney General Merrick Garland to “go after moms complaining about what they are teaching in school.”

“I don’t know if they have time to go after Dr. Fauci for lying. He should be held accountable because what we have developed as a system of health care in our country where doctors are afraid to speak out because they will cut out their research funding, doctors who have talked about innovative treatment to try to help people survive COVID are being lectured and told we will take your license,” the lawmaker said. “This is the kind of thing, this top-down centralization of medical authority, it’s not good for our country and it’s not good for innovation.”

Paul concluded that he fears an objective and apolitical doctor will one day stumble upon a life-saving treatment to another disease or virus, but not publish the findings for fear of retribution from the medical establishment and people like Fauci, whose office arguably has the undeserved power to allocate millions of dollars in grant monies.
