Passenger dubbed ‘Airplane Karen’ brings her own microphone to launch into midflight pandemic rant

A woman being dubbed “Airplane Karen” launched a mid-flight rant about the COVID-19 pandemic, eliminating the need for inflight entertainment for the other passengers.

The otherwise unidentified woman came prepared with her own microphone, as she stood up and began lecturing others on her views of the reasons behind the pandemic as flight attendants tried to reason with her.

“I brought my microphone, I’m going to use it,” the woman announced while standing in the aisle. “The pandemic started because humans have lost a little bit of faith.”

The incident was caught on camera by pop musician Jawny, who posted the now-viral video on TikTok — it has been viewed over 2 million times.

“I bought in flight Wi-Fi just to post this,” a caption on the video stated. “We are in the air right now.”

Flight attendants tried to restrain the unruly woman, warning that they would handcuff her if necessary. Other passengers were vocal in expressing their displeasure with her, which seemed to only invigorate the woman further.

“I don’t need to be cuffed,” she said, before boasting about her appearance. “I’m completely harmless. Also, I think you’re all enjoying this because, like I said, I’m not terrible to look at.”

“The reason the pandemic started is because basically the internet –” the woman said as she tried to march down the aisle, only to be stopped by the flight attendants. She continued, screaming into the microphone about people being “stuck to your stupid devices and you don’t even know what reality is anymore,” but her voice trailed off as she was led back to her seat to retrieve her bag.

“My dog has better sense than any of you,” the woman was then heard saying as she was escorted back to the rear of the plane. “In fact, my dog could be a better god for you people.”

The pandemic has had an impact on almost every aspect of society, but none more so than the air travel industry. There has been report after report about fights and altercations, as mixing fear and apprehension over a potentially deadly virus with being contained in a small tube made out of titanium, steel and aluminum make for a bad combination. Flying was already wrought with Orwellian controls before pandemic mitigation requirements came into play.

One such incident took place at a Florida airport, where an “all-out brawl” broke out when two women got into a vicious fight at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport — one of them had just been escorted from a plane along with a friend for allegedly refusing to wear masks.

Turns out, people wanting to bash the brains out of fellow human beings appears to be a common thing in South Florida airports, as there was a two-tier brawl in the American Airlines terminal of the Miami International Airport earlier this year involving seven people. A witness said the brutal fight started over seats available on a flight.

Which is not to say that flights are immune to experiencing fisticuffs, as seen on a Spirit Airlines flight from Las Vegas to Atlanta where two women got into a heated discussion that devolved into punching and grappling before male passengers intervened to break it up — it’s not clear what caused the spirited dispute.
