Biden pick for Comptroller of the Currency refuses to fork over Moscow St. University thesis on Marxism

President Joe Biden continues to rule under the shadow of a hammer and sickle as his nominee for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency declined to turn over her Moscow State University thesis on Marxism for review by the Oct. 13 deadline.

Saule Omarova is a native of the Soviet Union from the area that is now called Kazakhstan. She graduated from Moscow State University in 1989 before coming to the United States on a student exchange program in 1991.

Although she has since become a law professor in the United States, she has made statements asserting USSR policies as superior as recently as 2019 when she unleashed on Twitter with an anti-capitalism statement about the so-called gender wage gap, which ignored the fact that President John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act into law back in 1963.

“Until I came to the U.S., I couldn’t imagine that things like gender pay gap still existed in today’s world,” Omarova wrote. “Say what you will about old USSR, there was no gender pay gap there. Market doesn’t always ‘know best.’”

U.S. Senate Banking Committee Ranking Member Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) demanded that Omarova fork over her college thesis titled, “Karl Marx’s Economic Analysis and the Theory of Revolution in The Capital” so the Committee can properly analyze her nomination. The request asked for both the original Russian version and an English version if it exists.

Perhaps more important than reviewing the thesis that she penned while on the V.I. Lenin Personal Academic Scholarship, is the fact that any reference to it has mysteriously disappeared from her resume, calling into question the contents of the paper.

“While it appears that you have deleted any reference to your thesis in the version of your curriculum vitae (CV) that is currently available on the Cornell Law School website, the paper appeared on your CV as recently as April 2017,” Toomey wrote.

Toomey gave an Oct. 13 deadline to submit the paper for review. It is common for nominees to be asked for past writings as part of the vetting process, but perhaps more so for those that call for the federal government to usurp control over all bank accounts and “effectively ‘end banking,’ as we know it,” as she penned in a paper published last year.

A Senate Banking Committee Republicans spokesman denounced her failure to comply with the request in a statement on Thursday afternoon.

“Ms. Omarova has time to attack Republicans in an interview with the Financial Times, but she can’t bother to comply with a Banking Committee requirement that nominees— regardless of their political party or ideology—submit copies of their writings,” said Amanda Gonzalez Thompson according to a report by Fox Business. “We certainly hope she reconsiders so Senators have the information necessary to fulfill their constitutional duty to advise and consent on appointments.”

Although she apparently couldn’t be bothered to drudge up her likely damning college thesis, she did take time to defend herself in an interview with the Financial Times.

“There is definitely a different standard applied to someone like me,” Omarova told the Financial Times. “I am an easy target: an immigrant, a woman, a minority,” she added. “I don’t look like your typical comptroller of the currency. I have a different history. I am easy to demonize and vilify.”

Toomey clarified in a committee hearing last week that her homeland was not a factor to consider, but instead, his judgment on her fitness for the position would be guided by her past policies.

“I also pointed out that some of the most wonderful, loyal, and greatest Americans that I’ve ever met are Americans who happen to have been born and raised behind the Iron Curtain and come to this country,” Toomey said. “That fact of her background has no bearing whatsoever on my judgment about how profoundly misguided the policies she has advocated are and it is perfectly appropriate for us to examine those policies.”
