Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe unleashed his ire against former President Donald Trump after regaining his full pension, courtesy of the Biden Justice Department.
McCabe was fired in March 2018, right before he was set to retire and become eligible for full pension benefits, by then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions after the DOJ’s inspector general concluded that he had authorized the leaking of information on the Hillary Clinton email server case to a Wall Street Journal reporter and then lied to bureau investigators about it.
Ironically, McCabe was first interviewed on the matter the same day Trump fired James Comey as FBI director. After being fired himself, the former deputy director denied wrongdoing and alleged his firing was politically motivated. He also sued the Justice Department for wrongful termination.
In what proved to be fortuitous development for McCabe, Biden was declared to have won the 2020 presidential election and under his tutelage, the DOJ has agreed to a settlement, according to McCabe’s lawyers. Only in post-Obama America can counterefforts against senior bureau officials allegedly undermining a sitting U.S. president be flipped and deemed to be “partisan intimidation and improper political influence,” as McCabe attorney Murad Hussain said in a statement.
The settlement not only restored McCabe’s full pension but also vacates the finding that he authorized the leak and expunges from McCabe’s personnel folder any references to having been fired, the New York Post reported. Other restored benefits normally afforded to senior bureau executives include special cufflinks and “official FBI credentials, badge, and time-in-service award keys mounted in the format typically provided to retiring FBI Deputy Directors.”
Fittingly, CNN provided McCabe a platform to spike the proverbial football, and dump on Trump, who called him a “disgrace,” and “a poor man’s J. Edgar Hoover.” But then, there’s a reason why many former Democratic administration officials flock to the network after leaving office.

CNN host Anderson Cooper opened the segment with a focus on Trump, whom he said was “now the disaster and the disgraced person,” making no secret about what was to follow.
Playing the victim, McCabe said, “I can’t tell you what this has been like going through — what this whole vindictive campaign has put my wife through. My children. My parents. So to have a settlement of this lawsuit and one that so clearly indicates this should never have happened, it is both an incredible relief, it’s satisfying, but it’s also, it’s also kind of sad. I mean, like, this should never have happened. My family should have never had to go through this.”
Cooper reinforced his guest’s victim mentality while keeping the focus on Trump, asking McCabe what it was like being attacked by the former president who picked him “out of obscurity.”
“It was so bizarre,” McCabe replied, on cue. “I mean, to know that you essentially have a target on your back from the most powerful person in the world. The person you essentially work for as a member of the executive branch. It was like upside-down world. Like, you can’t even — I can’t even describe how terrifying and annoying and humiliating that is. But you know, that’s, that’s what he subjected people through for four years.”
He went on to fault Sessions, the Justice Department, Inspector General Michael Horowitz, even the FBI itself — essentially everyone other than himself.
Perhaps, without realizing it, McCabe summed it up well when he said, “This is the current Department of Justice standing up for fairness and standing up for the rule of law. In the settlement agreement itself, they agree that members of the executive branch should not interfere in internal political, internal personnel matters because it creates the appearance of political influence.”
This being the Biden DOJ… essentially saying the president of the United States should have no say about administration officials who serve at his pleasure.
Cooper then gave McCabe the platform to exonerate himself for lying, with the former bureau official saying he simply “misspoke.”
“On the day it was announced that no charges would be filed against you, you said on CNN I don’t think I’ll ever be free of this president and this maniacal rage he’s directed at me and my wife. Do you feel free today?” the CNN host then said, setting McCabe up for a final slam of Trump.
“I mean, I feel better, but I don’t feel free. I don’t kid myself to think that the president is going to put aside his horrific judgment, his constant lying, and his tormenting of me and my family,” he said. “I’m sure this will just add another log to the fire. He’ll probably be saying all kinds of things about it tomorrow. But you know what, I’m just to the point where I don’t care. I don’t care what that guy has to say.”
