A seemingly left-wing Texas school administrator reportedly told teachers last week that, because of the state’s recently enacted requirement that teachers cover “both sides” of current issues, they’ll need to be promoting both sides of the Holocaust as well.

To be clear, the Holocaust happened almost 100 years ago …

Gina Paddy, the Carroll Independent School District executive director of curriculum and instruction, was recorded making the remarks during a training session with teachers on what books they’re allowed to use in class now that House Bill 3979 has taken effect.

Listen to the shocking recording below:

“We are in the middle of a political mess, and you are in the middle of a political mess. And so we just have to do the best that we can. And so we’re gonna go and we’re gonna do, you’re gonna do what you do best, and that’s to teach kids,” she says as the audio recording begins.

“You are professionals. We hired you as professionals. We trust you with our children. So if you think the book is OK, then let’s go with it. And whatever happens, we will fight it together. We will,” she adds.

The teachers then complain that they’re “terrified,” so Paddy tells them that every Texas school district is dealing with the same “mess.”

“There’s a lot of districts that are in the exact same spot we’re in. And no one knows how to navigate these waters. I mean, no one,” she says.

When the teachers ask for an example of how to apply the law, she then throws out the Holocaust.

“As you go through, just try to remember the concepts of HB 3979, and make sure that if, if you have a book on the Holocaust that you have one that has an opposing, that has other perspectives,” she says.

This prompts the teachers to express shock.

“How do you oppose the Holocaust? What?” one asks.

“Believe me, that’s come up,” Paddy replies.

The recording has gone uber viral among the left, which is eager to use it to assail Texas’ law that — unreported by them — Paddy took completely out of context.

According to The Texas Tribune, the law says “teachers cannot be compelled to discuss current events and if they do, they must ‘give deference to both sides.'”

The bill was signed into law over concerns that teachers are indoctrinating students in racial essentialism, among other radical left-wing ideologies.

The law simply requires that in case a teacher does promote the work of contemporary racial essentialists like Ibram X. Kendi and his acolytes — whose work has been spotted in numerous schools across the country — they must also promote their critics.

Critics like Brown University professor Glenn Loury and Columbia University professor John McWhorter, for instance:

Speaking with NBC News, multiple parties in Texas, from a teachers’ union to the original author of the bill, echoed the Tribune’s reporting.

Clay Robison, a spokesman for the Texas State Teachers Association, reportedly called Paddy’s remarks an “overreaction” and a “misinterpretation” of the bill.

“We find it reprehensible for an educator to require a Holocaust denier to get equal treatment with the facts of history. That’s absurd. It’s worse than absurd. And this law does not require it,” Robison said.

State Sen. Bryan Hughes, reportedly the original author of the bill, made the same point.

“That’s not what the bill says. I’m glad we can have this discussion to help elucidate what the bill says, because that’s not what the bill says,” he told NBC News.

Then why did Paddy essentially smear the bill?

“Six Carroll teachers — including four who were in the room to hear Peddy’s remarks — spoke to NBC News on the condition of anonymity … said district leaders have sent mixed messages about which books are appropriate in classrooms and what actions they should be taking,” according to NBC News.

The school district has for its part corrected Paddy’s misinformation, with district superintendent Lane Ledbetter posting a note to Facebook admitting that the “bill does not require an opposing viewpoint on historical facts.”

Yet despite NBC News’ reporting, the statement from the Texas State Teachers Association, and the remarks by Hughes, as well as the Facebook post above, leftists on Twitter continue to smear HB 3979 based on Paddy’s misinformation.

Not just leftists, in fact, but even elected Democrats:

Perhaps that was the point all along?
