What is with Democrats and baskets? First, we had the “basket of deplorables,” as uttered by failed 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, and now we have House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., referring to baskets to sell her party’s socialist spending package — albeit with really bad math.
Pelosi was speaking at the weekly press conference Tuesday in the Capitol Visitor Center, lamenting that Democrats have had to cut the unprecedented multi-trillion dollar social welfare bill that also doubles as a front for the Green New Deal, making it clear that the measure discriminated in favor of women.
“I’m very disappointed that we’re not going with the original $3.5 trillion, which was very transformative,” she said. “But in the – whatever we do, we’ll make decisions that will continue to be transformative about women in the workplace, so transformed because of child care and universal pre‑K – which sort of go together – the Child Tax Credit, home health care workers. Men benefit too, but largely women. And women are those caregivers as well. So, not only to free up women to go into the workplace for their own professions and interests, but also to recognize the work that women do in providing that health care, issues that relate to family and medical leave and the rest.”
The 81-year-old speaker who’s beginning to give 78-year-old President Joe Biden a run for his money in formulating clear and concise sentences, then referenced Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan, trying to sell it to the American people by breaking it down into “three baskets” — but proceeded to name five different issues.
“The Build Back Better is three baskets. It’s climate, which we spent some time talking about already – health, job security and moral responsibility. It’s health care: the issues that relate to the Affordable Care Act, Medicare and Medicaid. And family care. I mentioned some of those issues already.”

“And so, whatever we do, it will be transformative. It will produce results. And we would – are very grateful to our president for saying, ‘I want to pass the bipartisan legislation on infrastructure, but I will not confine my vision for the future to what can be in that bill.’ Hence, we need the Build Back Better,” she added.
Keep in mind, when Democrats talk about “transformative,” they are talking about transforming away from the traditional American values that made this country great.
As for selling their massive spending package, Pelosi chastised the media on Tuesday for not doing a better job here, claiming Americans overwhelmingly support it whether they know it or not.
“Well I think you all could do a better job of selling it, to be very frank with you,” Pelosi snidely told members of the media when asked how Democrats can do a better job on messaging.
Nonetheless, social media users couldn’t help but have a little fun with Pelosi’s form of math, an approach that equates $3.5 trillion to zero, as was noted online — the lawmaker claimed the bill would cost nothing.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:

What about the “Basket of Deplorables”?
— Darryl Moll (@darrylmoll) October 12, 2021
Well it’s 3 big baskets and two smaller baskets. You see you have the two small baskets inside one of the bigger baskets. It’s really simple. 😜

And that’s the kind of math skills needed to turn trillions of dollars into zero.

Hey. She was only off by 2. Earlier, she thought $3.5 trillion = $0.
So. You know. Improvement.
