Biden faces hostile Michigan protesters: ‘Build Back Broke’

President Joe Biden left the confines of the D.C. swamp Tuesday, traveling to Michigan to peddle his “Build Back Better” agenda and finding less than a warm reception.

Residents of Howell, Michigan lined the streets as the presidential motorcade passed en route to Biden’s speaking engagement, and signaled their protest of an administration that wishes to spend obscene amounts of money in the name of infrastructure.

The Detroit Free Press reported that around 500 people showed up to express their disapproval of the president’s job performance, with many breaking into the 3-word chant (not ‘Let’s Go Brandon’) that has recently been heard at major sporting events and is rapidly becoming part of the American lexicon.

One attendee waved a sign that read “Build Back Broke,” and the assembly cheered when a front-end loader rolled by with a “No Biden” sign attached.

Among the crowd, many named the $3.5 trillion dollar spending bill as their principal objection, though the border crisis and vaccine mandates were also issues of major concern to the protesters.

“The money has to come from somewhere,” protester Londa Gatt told FOX 2. “You can’t keep printing it.”

“I think this is reflective of how upset people in everyday America are, when you leave the Washington bubble, about the spending going on in Washington, D.C.,” Meghan Reckling, chair of the Livingston County Republicans in Michigan told the outlet.

When asked why they thought Biden chose to visit Howell, located between Detroit and the capital city of Lansing, one Republican offered this:

“The easy answer is, he is probably trying to boost Slotkin and give her some props,” Meshawn Maddock, co-chair of the Michigan Republican Party, told the outlet, referring to Democrat U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, who will be up for reelection in 2022. “I think it is a clear indication of where Slotkin is going to be on this (infrastructure) vote.”

“Slotkin is not the moderate she said she was,” Republican Paul Junge, Slotkin’s 2020 opponent, said at the demonstration, according to the Detroit News. “The people of this district are going to see it and vote her out. I intend to be that alternative.”

“Sleepy Joe thinks that this is sleepy little Howell and it’s not,” protester Jackie Ludwig told the outlet.

“We just want Biden to know we’re not happy with his spending,” Ludwig’s husband, Philip Ludwig, added. “We’re not happy with the way our country’s going and the job he’s performing. And we would like him to step down.”

Always the fan of union labor and evidently never having seen “On the Waterfront”, Biden delivered his speech to the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 324.

“The challenge of the day is one of economic competition,” Biden said, adding that the U.S. needs to “invest in ourselves to show the world that American democracy works.”

He was joined in Howell by Democrat Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer as well as most of the state’s congressional Democrats, said the Free Press.

Ahead of his visit to the state, Biden left without saying a word in what has now become a new convention for the once-powerful executive position of President of the United States of America:

Largely Republican, the residents of Howell were not looking forward to the president’s arrival, with one resident saying “I wish he’d just stay out of this state and leave us alone.”

Other residents voiced their concerns about inflation: “Prices are going up.”

“People can’t find employees anymore.”
