Brian Stelter laments ‘families torn apart by Fox’ in tirade against network’s 25th anniversary celebration

Fox News is turning 25 this week, much to the horror and dismay of other networks.

Brian Stelter, host of the ironically named “Reliable Sources” over at CNN, was among those who dolefully mentioned the rival network on Sunday.

“You’ll probably hear a lot about Fox News this week. The network is turning 25 and running lots of commercials celebrating its birthday, but you won’t hear any honest assessment of Fox on Fox of how the network has changed America,” he said.

This, of course, was a natural time to segue into one of Stelter’s favorite pastimes, trying to advertise for his Anti-Fox News book, which has reportedly sold very poorly. After trying to shore up his book, Stelter got back to the task at hand of attacking Fox News for being patriotic in the wake of 9/11 among other things.

“But the network evolved or devolved into the beating heart of the GOP, a heart with clogged arteries and weak muscles. It’s the network that brought us inspirational stories about the military and middle America, but also smothering patriotism after 9/11, and a portrayal of the U.S.A. that seems stuck in a time warp,” he said.

Stelter also took time to lambast Fox News for the media personalities it has brought to prominence, particularly Shepherd Smith, who received no credit from Stelter for defecting from Fox News in 2019 and going to NBC, and also did not mention that Megyn Kelly has not worked for the network since 2017.

“Fox is the network that brought us Megyn Kelly, and Jesse Waters, and Greg Gutfeld, and Tomi Lahren, and Shep Smith narrating a llama chase. I mean, that was fun. I’ll never forget the llamas,” he continued.

There was no comment from Stelter about the personalities who are still on CNN today, such as Chris Cuomo, currently embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal (perhaps it runs in the family?), the perpetually angry Don Lemon, who also faces a sexual assault scandal, drama queen Jim Acosta, mostly famous for doing everything possible to derail former President Donald Trump’s press conferences, and howling agents provocateurs Angela Rye and April Ryan.

Singled out for special attention was Roger Ailes, former CEO of Fox News, who made for a juicy target due to sex scandals and involvement with the Trump campaign.

“But for all the fun, there’s so much darkness in Fox’s history. You won’t see Roger Ailes in the retrospectives, but his abuse of women, his leg cam, his paranoia, his rage; it’s what translated into the network that exists today. Full of rage, anger. It’s the whitelash on TV, although, often delivered with a smile. Ailes also brought us Donald Trump,” Stelter said.

The irony of the last dig at Ailes over Trump was apparently lost on Stelter, considering it was his own boss, Jeff Zucker, who made Trump a household name with “Apprentice” during his time at NBC. Zucker also did his part to ensure that the 2016 Republican primary was flooded with coverage of the Trump campaign, greatly aiding his publicity.

This would be the same Zucker who helped transition CNN into a company that lost what credibility it gained in the wake of the first Gulf War (1991), in order to help promote Iraqi propaganda or to aggressively attack Nick Sandmann, the Covington Catholic High School teen, and try to turn him into a patronizing racist, or to help cover for Lemon and Cuomo when they faced scandal for sexual harassment.

Stelter wrapped up his rant by accusing Fox News of being an “accelerant” for ideological arsonists, before trying to hawk yet another anti-Fox News book, “The Brainwashing of My Dad” which he said is “about exactly what you think.”

“For the families who feel they have been torn apart by Fox, this week is not a happy anniversary,” Stelter concluded.
