A former Trump White House aide who was dismissed for cause in December 2017 says that the House committee looking into the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol Building is “on the right track” by issuing a subpoena to Katrina Pierson, a spokeswoman for then-GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign.
Omarosa Manigault Newman used a phrase that was made popular by a 1976 film called “All the President’s Men,” which was based on a book by Washington Post reporters Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward, in which they provided details of the Watergate scandal that brought down then-President Richard Nixon, in saying that Pierson may have crucial information linking Trump to the incident.
“Not only was Katrina one of the organizers, but she was behind the money, you know, and every scandal, it’s always ‘follow the money,'” she told MSNBC on Saturday. “And because she was so involved with raising money and organizing the events, I believe the committee is right in subpoenaing her.
“She’s going to have a lot of information, and she had a lot of insight on what they knew and when, and I truly believe because of Donald Trump’s violent instincts that he knew that things would probably get out of hand,” Manigault Newman claimed.
According to reports, the Jan. 6 committee said in a subpoena letter that she was involved in the planning for Jan. 5 and Jan. 6 rallies ahead of the riot and was in direct communication with then-President Trump regarding those events. In addition, the subpoena demands that Pierson produce documents later this month and appear for a deposition in early November.
“Katrina should be very concerned, and we’ll see what happens, but the committee is on the right track,” said Manigault Newman.
The committee sent subpoenas to 11 people last week, including Pierson. On Thursday, she tweeted: “It will be the honor of my life to defend the First Amendment rights of the American people before a totalitarian, partisan-driven and wholly corrupt Congress of the United States.”
Pierson went on to tweet in response to Manigault Newman’s comments and claims.
“Most people with a brain have become skilled with my name in their mouths because I have excellent defamation attorneys. It appears that this charade will add more wins to their belts,” she wrote.

Trump’s political opponents have repeatedly blamed him for inciting the riot at the Capitol Building by encouraging his supporters to “stop the steal” and “fight much harder.” But he also urged supporters at his Jan. 6 rally to march “peacefully” to the Capitol as lawmakers were inside preparing to certify the 2020 election victory for Joe Biden.
Trump was impeached for a second time following the riot, but he was acquitted by the Senate after Democratic House impeachment managers failed to convince enough members Trump was party to an “insurrection.”
Manigault Newman, in her interview with MSNBC, said she thinks Trump has incriminated himself.
“If these folks come forward and tell the truth, then all roads point back to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., and Donald Trump was closely involved and spearheading this effort,” she said.
Manigault Newman, who appeared on the very first season of Trump’s reality TV show, “The Apprentice,” became an ally of the future president, who brought her into his administration to serve as the director of communications for the White House Office of Public Liaison.
Last week, she won a legal battle against the former president when an arbitrator in New York ruled that a non-disclosure agreement she signed was overly broad and “unenforceable.”
