Wife of DHS Secretary Mayorkas confronts anti-ICE protesters outside DC home

The wife of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas reportedly confronted a group of demonstrators in front of the couple’s Washington, D.C., home after they gathered to complain about the Biden administration’s immigration policies.

As part of the Monday protest, the group — Never Again Action, billed as a Jewish anti-Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) organization — hung a 30-foot banner in front of the Mayorkas home claiming that the Biden White House is pursuing immigration and border policies enacted by former President Donald Trump.

“We just covered his house with a 30-foot emergency blanket banner, speaking the truth: on immigration, the Biden presidency is a continuation of Trump policy,” the group noted on Twitter.

The organization went on to say that demonstrators had an “angry” encounter with Tanya Mayorkas.

“We talked briefly to the wife of DHS Secretary Mayorkas. She was very angry, and told us that this was her family home,” the organization noted further in a tweet containing video of the encounter. “And we really do understand that. But again, there are families being torn apart every day. There are people being deported from their home forever, every day.

When we talk about #KeepYourPromises on immigration, here’s what we mean: If you go to JoeBiden.com, it still says: ‘Biden will end all the ICE agreements entered into by the Trump Administration.’ Of the 116 Trump ICE contracts, guess how many they’ve canceled? One,” another tweet from the organization says.

“That’s why we took action that couldn’t be ignored yesterday. And that’s why we can’t stop here. We need to keep showing Biden and DHS Secretary Mayorkas that the people that put them in office won’t accept the continuation of Trump’s immigration agenda,” said another post.

Alyssa Rubin, the organization’s director, went on to echo the group’s Twitter messages.

“The Biden administration promised to end Trump’s cruel immigration policies, and replace them with a ‘fair and humane’ immigration system,” she said, according to Fox News. “Instead they’ve doubled down on the worst of Trump’s racist policies.”

In fact, on his first day as president, Biden reversed most of Trump’s border and immigration enforcement policies, via executive orders, though one of the most effective — the Migrant Protection Protocols, a.k.a. the ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy — has been reinstated by the U.S. Supreme Court after justices ruled Biden violated the Administrative Procedures Act in trying to end it.

It’s not clear if the administration has restarted the program, though; Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton recently sued the administration again to determine whether the White House has complied.

“It looks like to us they’re just stalling. We don’t know for sure all of the facts, that’s why we want discovery. But it seems like they’re using the excuse that they haven’t worked out their arrangement with Mexico,” he told Fox News earlier this month.

“What we want is deadlines, we want some type of deadline for them to take action sooner rather than later. We won this about a month ago,” he added.

While Trump had a reputation for strict border enforcement, his predecessor, President Barack Obama, was known as the “deporter-in-chief” because of his administration’s far higher deportation actions.
