Gov. Ducey explains why he crushed Trump’s hopes of decertifying AZ election results over audit findings

The convoluted auditing of the 2020 election results in Arizona’s most populous county, Maricopa County, had the legacy media reporting last week that not only did President Joe Biden win but that he had a net gain of 360 votes over the official results.

At the same time, there were reports of multiple inconsistencies, as seen in a letter Arizona state Senate President Karen Fann sent to Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich last week raising concerns “over signature verification on mail-in ballots, the accuracy of voter rolls, the securing of election systems, and the record-keeping of evidence related to the elections,” the Epoch Times reported.

The Republican senator asked for further investigation of the audit’s findings, while others called for the 2020 elections results to be decertified, including former President Donald Trump, who said as much at a rally Saturday night in Georgia.

Arizona state Sen. Wendy Rogers, an ardent Trump supporter, also called for immediate decertification of the results.

But Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey wasted little time dousing those hopes.

Taking to Twitter, a platform still denied to Trump, the Republican governor acknowledged there’s a crisis of confidence in the state’s elections results, but essentially passed the buck to the state legislature, the attorney general, and the Department of Justice. He would note that there is “no lawful way to decertify” the results even if it was called for.

Ducey also declared, “The outcome stands and the 2020 election in Arizona is over.”

“There will be no decertification of the 2020 election —  the audit does not call for one, and even if it had, there is no lawful way to decertify. As we have every step of the way, Arizona will follow the law,” Ducey continued. “But there is work to do to strengthen confidence in our elections system. We made some good common-sense reforms this past session, such as making sure our early voter lists are accurate.”

He concluded by saying Arizona will take measures to make future recounts more difficult amid the claim that audits fuel voter skepticism about elections, and will work “on meaningful election reform next legislative session, which can take effect in time for the 2022 election.”

In other words, we’ll get the next election right, we promise. Swear to God.

As for the just-completed audit, the Senate president called it “the most detailed, demanding, and uncompromising election audit that has ever been conducted.”

“Arizona voters deserve an unimpeachable electoral process — and the State Senate is already working hard on new legislation to deliver that,” Fann stated in her letter to the state attorney. “As the Senate enters that next phase, there are several items in the reports that merit the attention of your office. I am therefore forwarding the reports for your office’s consideration and, if you find it appropriate, further investigation as part of your ongoing oversight of these issues.”

Key among the issues, as seen in the final report submitted by Cyber Ninjas, was that 23,344 mail-in ballots were received from voters’ previous addresses and that 9,041 more ballots were returned by voters than were sent to them.

“Mail-in ballots were cast under voter registration IDs for people that may not have received their ballots by mail because they had moved, and no one with the same last name remained at the address. Through extensive data analysis we have discovered approximately 23,344 votes that may have this condition,” the report said.

State GOP chairwoman Kelli Ward turned up the heat on Brnovich in a tweet, stating: “Nothing stops AG [Brnovich]  from doing a total signature verification audit & complete canvass of voters in Maricopa County and every county in Arizona.”

As noted, election integrity matters. And the fact remains that there are tens of millions of Americans who have lost all confidence in the accuracy and fairness of the electoral process. A reality that should greatly concern ALL politicians. regardless of party, because the long-term consequences of this lack of confidence doesn’t bode well for the nation.
