More minors were shot in Chicago than died of Covid across entire United States in one year: report

A Fox News story from September reports that over the course of 2021, more minors have been shot in Chicago than have died of COVID-19 in all of the United States, according to data from police and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A total of 214 children 17 years old or younger have died of COVID-19 so far this year in the country. Comparatively, Chicago police told FOX 32 Chicago earlier in September that 261 children have been shot — 41 of whom have died.

Liberals and their allies in the mainstream media are always keen on the science when it aids in furthering a narrative, but they just aren’t very good with numbers. If they were, they would be pleased to report that while deaths among children due to COVID-19 increased between August and September, that group makes up 0-0.27 percent of all COVID 19 deaths in the state of Illinois. In fact, seven states reported zero deaths among children, according to the CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics.

Conversely, more children have been fatally shot in Chicago alone than have died of COVID-19 in the entire state of Illinois.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported at the time that 25 people under the age of 18 have died of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, or six in every 100,000 people under 18 in Illinois. The CDC has recorded 18 total COVID-19 deaths in Illinois in 2021.

Sadly, over Labor Day weekend this year, 63 people were shot, including eight children. Among the six deceased out of the 63 total wounded was one 4-year-old Alabama boy who died after he was shot while getting his hair cut inside a west side apartment.

The boy’s mother, Angela Gregg, told the Chicago Tribune at the time that she had no idea about a motive, but she knows her son was “not supposed to lose his life at 4 years old, and somebody needs to step up and say something.”

“The police don’t know anything yet because no one is talking. No one is coming forward,” she told the outlet. “People aren’t answering their doors, and the people that are answering their doors are saying they don’t know anything. … Somebody in Chicago knows something.”

Chicago Police Superintendent David O. Brown had a message for criminal offenders, asking them: “Why are you continuing to be around young people, our children?”

He urged such offenders to “stay away from children if you want to live that life.”

“You’re harming this community. You’re harming these families,” he added. “And we will be relentless in pursuing you as an offender.”

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot attempted her own appeal, imploring the citizens of Chicago to speak out if and when they know something about a crime.

“I understand the fear that’s out there but I’m just calling upon people in these neighborhoods…,” Lightfoot said. “You’ve got to have your faith overcome your fear, you’ve got to step up.”

Perhaps Lightfoot doesn’t realize she is in charge of the city and its law enforcement resources and personnel.

President Biden met with Lightfoot in July to discuss potential solutions to the city’s gun violence problem after 100 people were shot over the July 4 weekend. As expected, to them the root cause is the gun, not the person, and Biden’s initiatives at the time sought to employ the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to aid in efforts to stymie the increasing violence in the city.

Democrat leaders from Lori Lightfoot all the way up to President “Buck Stops With Me” Biden are quick to deflect blame for horrible policies on anything but the horrible policymakers, namely themselves. But, rest assured they will cry that any COVID death is one too many, as children in major cities like Chicago have their lives stopped short and their families torn apart, not by a virus that has no guile, but by criminals who willfully disregard all life.
