‘You can’t make this up’: AOC plays victim wearing ‘Tax the Rich’ gown at swanky Met Gala, but no mask

Acting like the belle of the ball, U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was all the rage Monday night when the self-avowed democratic socialist showed up on the red carpet at the star-studded Met Gala in New York City.

The lawmaker’s appearance and attire were a walking contradiction, as she rocked a dress rumored to cost $10,000 at an event where tickets started at $30,000, according to the Associated Press. The dress was emblazoned with the message, “Tax the Rich.”

Never mind that the politician who claims to be fighting for the working class was right at home mixing and mingling with the most affluent people in the city.

(It’s not clear if AOC paid for her own ticket or how she was able to attend the swanky event, and you can be sure her media allies won’t bother with such trivial details.)

Adding to the rank hypocrisy of the whole sordid affair, the sanctimonious former bartender who lectures others about their behavior amid a pandemic strutted around showing off her backside without bothering to wear a mask.

Ocasio-Cortez was far from alone, though, as much of the elite class on hand Monday night didn’t bother with masks.

But then, as journalist Glenn Greenwald noted, “COVID wasn’t invited to the [Met Gala] and these are the sophisticated people who aren’t in danger.”

And if that wasn’t enough to make you ill — no pun intended — Ocasio-Cortez had the sheer audacity to STILL play the poor, oppressed victim.

“When Aurora [James] and I were first kind of partnered, we really started having a conversation about what it means to be a working-class women of color at the Met,” AOC said. “And we said, ‘We can’t just play along, but we need to break the fourth wall and challenge some of the institutions, and while the Met is known for its spectacle, we should have a conversation about it.'”

“Fashion is changing, America is changing. And as far as this theme goes, I think Alexandria and I are a great embodiment of the language fashion needs to consider adding to the general lexicon as we work towards a more sustainable, inclusive, and empowered future,” Aurora James, founder of the dress designer Brother Vellies, said, according to Vogue.

The timing of the event could not have been better, as Democrats rolled out what’s being characterized as “the highest tax increases in American history,” a massive tax hike designed to help pay for President Biden’s $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package.

Ocasio-Cortez is a prominent supporter of the unprecedented spending bill that steers billions of dollars to “climate-friendly infrastructure,” calling for taxing the wealthy to pay for it all.

Turns out, Ocasio-Cortez was not the only liberal snob to show up at the Met Gala with a message.

Teen Vogue editor-in-chief Versha Sharma was toting a custom clutch purse that was emblazoned with the message, “Protect Roe. Kill the filibuster.”

A perfect nightcap for the spectacle was the get up from tennis player Naomi Osaka, who was bounced out of the third round of the Tokyo Olympics and endured an upset loss in the U.S. Open, before tearfully telling reporters she may take an indefinite break from tennis.

“I feel like for me, recently, like when I win, I don’t feel happy. I feel more like a relief. And then when I lose, I feel very sad,” Osaka said following the U.S. Open loss. “I don’t think that’s normal.”

And that get-up above is???

Back to Ocasio-Cortez, while it may be debatable whether she was the belle of the ball, there was no debating that she lit social media up.
