Professional media cheerleader Brian Stelter of CNN attracted scathing backlash this Saturday when he tweeted an offensive quote about the allegedly important role “journalists” had played after the Sept. 11th terror attacks.
“Network TV anchors were ‘the closest thing that America had to national leaders on 9/11. They were the moral authority for the country on that first day,’ especially with political leaders in bunkers or otherwise out of sight…,” he tweeted.
The tweet linked to an Associated Press report published last Tuesday. It’s not clear why Stelter chose to wait til the morning of Sept. 11th to share it. It’s also not clear why he chose to add his own commentary at the end.

While some of it was just a quote — meaning he wasn’t the one who’d said it — most critics suspected that it was a reflection on how he himself feels.
Stelter meanwhile tried to suggest that he was just the messenger and that “objections” should be directed “to the author of the story or the person he quoted.”
what in the world are you on about? President Bush delivered an address from the Oval Office that very evening. also, there’s this:https://t.co/07GOcJUujI

I remember. Please send your objections to the author of the story or the person he quoted.

However, it appears nobody bought his excuse.
You added your take outside the quotes! Also, you shared it. So at some level you liked it and agreed with it. You didn’t offer criticism, so what other deduction is there? Stop playing these stupid games Brian. We all know what you’re doing.

As of Sunday morning, his tweet had only 678 likes but over 9,000 comments, virtually all of them bashing him. The tweet also had 2,500 retweets, but most of them appear to be from people drawing attention to his “narcissism.”

I don’t know what this is even designed to mean other than to be incendiary on a dark anniversary.
First responders led & ran into danger and died. Mayor Giuliani, Hillary Clinton, George Pataki, President Bush, Chuck Schumer…. there were many real leaders leading us. https://t.co/60eBxqdvmL

Oh man. I saw hundreds of moral and courageous leaders with me that day saving lives and running back into the Pentagon to save more, over and over. We didn’t leave until the job was done. None of them were in your anti-American media cabal Potato. #NeverForget

The assumption that he feels the same as the person he’d quoted stemmed from the fact that he’s a notorious media cheerleader who — despite his official designation as CNN’s “chief media correspondent” — mostly defends and praises the press.
Or rather, he defends the media so long as their reporting enhances the Democrat Party’s agenda. He’s conversely always critical of conservative media. For these reasons, he’s long been accused of being a Democrat Party hack.

When Stelter recently complained about all the non-establishment journalists and commentators on YouTube who are critical of President Joe Biden, popular radio show host Joe Rogan slammed him for being a “fawning,” “bootlicking” groupie instead of a journalist.
“How about Brian Stelter talking to the press secretary saying, ‘What are we doing wrong? What are we doing wrong?’ Like, hey motherf–ker, you’re supposed to be a journalist,” he said.
He added that this non-journalism framed as “journalism” is why CNN’s ratings are so low, relatively speaking.
“This is because the market has spoken and your show’s f–king terrible. Brian Stelter’s show keeps slipping and slipping and slipping in the ratings. Same with Don Lemon’s. It’s the same thing. Everybody knows they’re not real. They’re not real humans,” he said.

Dovetailing back to Stelter’s tweet, the part in quotes was uttered by so-called fellow “journalist” Garrett Graff. His words were included in a lengthy AP piece extolling the Sept. 11th coverage of news anchors Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings and Dan Rather.
“Most Americans were guided through the unimaginable by one of three anchors: Tom Brokaw of NBC News, Peter Jennings of ABC and Dan Rather of CBS,” the AP’s piece reads, after which it drops Graff’s stunning quote.
