Donald Trump has released a video in which he honors the nearly 3,000 Americans who died 20 years ago as he commemorated the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks while blasting President Joe Biden over his turbulent and deadly mishandling of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
“This is a very sad day. September 11 represents great sorrow for our country. Many things were displayed that day, including most importantly the bravery of our police, fire, and first responders of every kind. The job they did was truly unbelievable. We love them and we thank them,” the former president said in the video posted on Saturday.
Trump then laid into Biden whom he said “was made to look like a fool” during the Afghanistan pullout last month ahead of the August 31 deadline.
“It is also a sad time for the way our war on those that did such harm to our country ended last week. The loss of 13 great warriors and the many more who were wounded, should never have happened,” he added, in reference to the 11 Marines, two U.S. Army soldiers, and one Navy corpsman who were killed in a suicide bombing a few days before the pullout deadline.
“We had $85 billion of the finest and most sophisticated military equipment taken from us without even a shot being fired. The leader of our country was made to look like a fool,” he continued, adding that the chaotic evacuation was the result of “bad planning” and “incredible weakness” because political leaders “truly didn’t understand what was happening.”
“This is the 20th year of this war, and should have been a year of victory and honor, and strength,” Trump — who is said to be strongly considering another White House run in 2024 in part due to what happened in Afghanistan — continued.
“Instead, Joe Biden and his inept administration surrendered in defeat. We will live on, but sadly our country will be wounded for a long period of time. We will struggle to recover from the embarrassment this incompetence has caused. Do not fear, however, America will be made great again,” Trump noted as he concluded his video.
His impassioned remarks stood in stark contrast to the stilted and scripted speech delivered by Biden on the anniversary of the terror attacks.
Trump’s message comes as the president and first lady Jill Biden visited Ground Zero in New York City, the site where the twin towers of the World Trade Center collapsed after being struck with fully fueled commercial jetliners flown by hijackers. Another plane flew into the Pentagon, and a fourth — believed to be headed to the White House — crashed in a western Pennsylvania field after passengers overpowered hijackers and forced the plane down.
The former president’s video also comes on the heels of a new report claiming that the Pentagon mistakenly targeted an Afghan citizen who was a U.S. contractor in Kabul, killing him and nine other innocent people after mistaking him for a terrorist.

The report, from The New York Times, said that Zemari Ahmadi, a “longtime worker for a U.S. aid group,” was targeted after U.S. intelligence mistakenly identified him as an ISIS operative in the Aug. 29 strike, which came a day after the 13 U.S. military personnel were killed in a suicide attack outside the international airport in the Afghan capital.
