The Taliban have reportedly begun replacing the mainly “social justice” themed murals that used to line the streets of Kabul with new Islamic-themed murals.

According to the New York Post, the original murals honored “a murdered Japanese aid worker, the drowning of Afghan refugees in Iran, the [U.S.-Taliban] peace agreement, the death of George Floyd, and others.”

These murals are now slowly but surely being replaced “by paintings of Taliban flags and Islamic slogans.”

Contrary to widespread reporting, the mural honoring Floyd hadn’t been replaced yet as of Wednesday evening, according to the Daily Mail.

However, the Daily Mail did predict that “it is perhaps only a matter of time” before Floyd’s mural is also removed.

This raises two questions: How will the “woke” respond to their hero’s mural being effectively desecrated? And why in the world was a mural of him in Afghanistan in the first place?

The latter question has been quite prominent on Twitter (*Language warning):

According to the Post, the murals were painted by a group of Afghan artists who call themselves the “Artlords.”

The group’s website says they were established in 2014 as “a grassroots movement of artists and volunteers motivated by the desire to pave the way for social transformation and behavioral change through employing the soft power of art and culture as a non-intrusive approach.”

They appear, for all intents and purposes, to be Afghan left-wingers …

It’s no surprise though that so many people assumed the U.S. government had a role in the painting of the Floyd mural. Especially this government, which at this very moment is busy complaining that the Taliban isn’t “inclusive” enough.

“The State Department on Tuesday expressed concerns over the makeup of the new interim Afghan government announced by the Taliban, including the lack of female leaders and the past actions of some of those appointed to top posts,” The Hill reported Tuesday.

“We have made clear our expectation that the Afghan people deserve an inclusive government,” a State Department spokesperson reportedly said.

Members of the mainstream press have also complained.

The painting-over of murals in Kabul comes as statues continue to be toppled over here in the U.S.

On Wednesday, the statue of legendary Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee in Richmond, Virginia, was toppled and removed on orders of state Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat.

Also removed was the time capsule that had been buried at the base of the statue. It’s reportedly been replaced by a “woke” capsule containing an LGBTQ pride pin, an expired coronavirus vaccine and a piece of cloth that appears to be a tribute to the pseudo-historical 1619 Project.
