‘Are you insane?’ WaPo’s Jennifer Rubin confounds when she throws State Dept a giant bone on Afghan exit

While it was expected that the usual suspects in the media who regularly carry water for President Biden would run to his defense over the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, one stood out among the rest.

Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin took her usual Biden sycophancy to new levels in praising the administration for its handling of the evacuation, conveniently tiptoeing past the graves of 13 dead U.S. servicemember.

In a piece titled, “The State Department deserves more credit for its effort to evacuate Americans from Afghanistan,” Rubin all but blamed Americans left behind enemy lines by Biden, their fate now in the hands of the brutal Taliban, by stressing that the State Department had started urging them to leave back in April.

“Many Americans ignored these warnings,” the shrill columnist wrote, making no reference to Biden’s assurance last month that a Taliban takeover of Afghanistan was “not inevitable.”

Her column running interference for Biden, who’s taking a beating over his handling of the crisis, was so impressive that State Department spokesman Ned Price shared it online:

White House deputy communications director Kate Berner also shared the column.

“Good rundown of the State Department’s around the clock efforts to contact every American in Afghanistan and help them evacuate,” she tweeted.

The Democratic National Committee “War Room” also touted Rubin’s effort:

At some point, it becomes reasonable to wonder whether Rubin is on the Democratic payroll.

The columnist praised the Taliban, saying “by and large [they] did allow nearly 6,000 Americans to reach the airport,” and that they had “little reason to hold any American against his or her will.”

“The media entrenched in the narrative that the Afghanistan operation is a ‘failure’ may very well speculate about Americans left behind. A few Americans may even pop up after Aug. 31, which will test the commitment to bring every American home,” she concluded. “But the herculean effort to extract thousands of Americans after the Taliban seized control of the country should not go unnoticed or unappreciated.”

One thing is fairly certain, if any of the hundreds of Americans left behind should die at the hands of the barbarians now running Afghanistan, Rubin can be counted on to spin the truth in favor of Biden — most likely by blaming Donald Trump.

Of all the responses to the story, conservative talk radio host Tammy Bruce may have had the best take.

Are you insane? On the day you officially abandon hundreds of Americans behind enemy lines in a FUBAR catastrophe, you are tweeting an opinion piece whining about how State deserves more credit?! SIT. DOWN. Better yet, tell your boss to RESIGN & follow him OUT THE DOOR,” she tweeted, adding the hashtag #pathetic.
