Sec. of State Blinken’s hapless tweet about ‘holding terrorists to account’ goes over like a brick

President Joe Biden is totally deserving of being blamed for the turmoil in Afghanistan but his foreign policy team shouldn’t be given a pass for their own roles in the unfolding human rights disaster that has resulted from their poor planning.

One who continues to demonstrate that he isn’t up to the job is Secretary Of State Antony Blinken, whose incompetent tenure as the nation’s top-ranking diplomat got off to a rough start when his Chinese counterparts made mincemeat out of him at the Anchorage talks, making it clear that he is in way over his head at Foggy Bottom.

While Blinken was busily using his office to engage in virtue signaling by authorizing the flying of the Black Lives Matter flag from U.S. embassies in honor of George Floyd, the world was burning, particularly in Afghanistan where the Taliban was busy making plans for their takeover of the war-torn country which came to fruition after Biden’s unconditional surrender.

In another mind-boggling example of Blinken’s cluelessness, he took to Twitter on Saturday to call for the recognition of the International Day of Remembrance to those who have lost their lives to terrorism, writing that “The United States stands resolute to holding terrorists to account.”

It was a stunning statement for a top official of the administration that has just ensured that Afghan territory will once again be a safe haven for terrorists, just as it was when the mass murderers who carried out the 9/11 attacks trained for their suicide mission that would serve as the reason why America embarked on a 20-year war after removing the Taliban from power, only to turn it back over to a more militant version of the Islamic extremists.

Twitter roasted the hapless Blinken on a spit for his jaw-dropping lack of self-awareness.

Blinken, who got his foreign policy start during the Clinton administration and later went on to serve under Democrat Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden was always seen as unqualified and dangerously incompetent by some, including now-deceased Senator John McCain, a champion of the war in Afghanistan who took to the Senate floor in 2014 to warn his colleagues

“This individual has actually been dangerous to America and to the young men and women who are fighting and serving it,” McCain said. “Mr. Blinken has been a foreign policy adviser to Vice President Biden since his days in the Senate, but as Robert Gates has noted, Mr. Biden has been wrong on nearly every foreign policy and national security issue over the last four decades.”

The latter being a reference to the former defense secretary’s opinion of the man who would be hand-picked by Biden as his Secretary Of State years later.

Many would beg to differ with McCain on many things but he was dead on with Blinken.

It is highly unlikely that heads are going to roll over the Afghanistan catastrophe given Washington’s aversion for accountability but if they did, Blinken would be among those who deserve to be fired for the lasting damage that they have done to America’s image and reputation.
