Far-left San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin is facing a second recall effort as residents of the festering, crime-ridden city become increasingly “fed up” with his progressive approach to prosecutions and law enforcement in general.
In particular, a growing number of San Fran residents are displeased with Boudin’s policies such as his push to defund jails and refusal to file charges against repeat offenders, which critics say fosters an environment of lawlessness throughout the city marked by open-air drug dealing, blatant daylight robberies of shops and businesses, and rising violent crime that is now spreading to the city’s suburban neighborhoods, according to San Francisco Police Officers Association President Tony Montoya.
In an interview with Fox News, Montoya discussed the GOP-led push to recall Boudin, which last week came up 1,714 signatures short of the required 51,325 needed to trigger a special election asking voters if they wanted to retain or oust the DA.
But a second recall effort is now underway, though on Monday Boudin dismissed the first effort as evidence that his self-proclaimed policy successes in reducing incarceration rates have “angered the billionaire class.”
Montoya said Boudin’s lax enforcement approach is hurting San Francisco residents, describing it as the DA’s “swiftest revolving door in criminal justice,” which is essentially telling criminals that there won’t be any consequences for what they do.
“Police are the bad guys, and the bad guys are the good guys in the mind of a progressive,” Montoya told the network. “Chesa’s good at the blame game. We’re going to call him Mr. Deflector because he’s always pointing the finger left or right and never at the man in the mirror.”
“The perception out there is that there are zero consequences for illegal or bad behavior. They know if they get caught, they’ll be out sooner than it takes the officer to write their police report,” the union boss added.
“Rather than the politicians becoming numb to it, I think they’re in denial. They are flat out in denial that it’s occurring. It’s no secret we have an open-air drug market,” Montoya said.
A tweet from the police union began with “Fed up,” and included a quote from a local restaurant owner, Adam Mesnick.

“It makes no sense that the district attorney will tell you that he has more fear of a Honduran dealer’s family having challenges than a local family whose kid OD’d on fentanyl,” Mesnick said, according to the San Fran POA.
Montoya ticked off a list of things that are causing residents “to wake up to the reality that’s now become their nightmare as far as public safety and crime goes,” including daylight shoplifting, burglaries at businesses and homes, open-air drug sales, homelessness, and violent crimes like shootings.
The union president discussed how Proposition 47 in California made possessing drugs a misdemeanor though selling drugs is still a felony. And as such, police officers in the city are continuing to arrest suspected drug dealers.
However, Montoya said “because Chesa Boudin believes that those who are selling drugs may be the victims of society’s failures, he’s not going to prosecute these people.”
“The ones selling these drugs are feeding the demons of these addicts. They are literally responsible for people dying on our streets. We lost more people to fentanyl overdoses last year than we did to COVID,” Montoya told the network via phone on Tuesday.
“He’s not prosecuting people. We’re seeing the same people again and again and again. It’s taking recidivism to a whole new level. He likes to tout that there’s almost zero recidivism when he releases people from the jails. Not true, Mr. Boudin,” Montoya added.
He also said San Fran police detectives will present Boudin with a host of evidence involving violent crime suspects to include video, persons caught with weapons on them, and other evidence, but Boudin will refuse to prosecute without DNA proof.
“So I’m calling nonsense on his list that ending jails makes us all safer. I’m just one person, I’m the union president. But they’ve woken a sleeping giant with the citizens,” Montoya said.
“And they are now speaking loud and clear. I think many have buyer’s remorse when it comes to the last district attorney’s elections.”
