Staunch liberal Bill Maher loathes President Donald Trump and just about any Republican.
As BizPac Review readers are well aware, however, he has consistently fought back against the left on various forms of cancel culture. He’s one of the few individuals active in the entertainment space who is willing to do so publicly.
In Friday night’s episode of his Real Time TV show, Maher called out Democrats for their bad-faith attack on U.S. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).
“Shut the f— up,” was the message the comedian succinctly sent to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and company. He also implied that bad faith is running rampant on both sides of the ideological divide.
In a new-rule segment, which is a regular feature of the HBO program, Maher blasted the Democrats’ response after McCarthy made a lame joke at a fundraiser:
“Two weeks ago, Nancy Pelosi called Republican House leader Kevin McCarthy a moron. Oh, that’s not the bad faith part of the story. That’s the true part,” Maher recalled.
“But a few days later, McCarthy was speaking to a group of Republicans and said jokingly, but he is Kevin McCarthy, he said that if Republicans took the House in 2022, ‘I want you to watch Nancy Pelosi hand me that gavel, it will be hard not to hit her with it.’ Pelosi’s office called it a threat of violence. Hakeem Jeffries said violence against women is no laughing matter. And Eric Swalwell said McCarthy was a would-be assailant who must resign. Shut up. Shut the f— up.”
“This is what bad faith is. You don’t really think it was a threat of violence or that anyone thinks such violence would be a laughing matter, or that Kevin McCarthy is a would-be assailant any more than anyone thinks Matt Damon’s a homophobe,” Maher concluded.

If you watch Real Time or its clips on social media here and there, you’ve probably noticed that the audience often hesitates to react with laughter or applause when Bill Maher departs from the left-wing narrative.
During this particular edition, the director cut several times to panelist Donna Brazile, the Democrat operative, who appeared to be going with the flow by fake-laughing.

Maher’s reference to Matt Damon was in connection with a controversy over the actor’s alleged past use of a gay slur, which Maher begin the segment discussing.
Citing this and other comments that Damon has made over the years, Maher wondered why Damon — who has “impeccable liberal credentials” is “always in the doghouse with the online hall monitors of righteousness,” i.e., the woke mob. Damon has “a woke rap sheet as long as your arm,” he quipped.
“There are too many people in this country who are motivated by what they really believed but what will get Twitter to react to them with likes and retweets. That’s called bad faith…,” Maher declared.
“I’m so tired of bad faith arguments…and Matt, my advice to you, stop hunting for goodwill. You’re not gonna find much in this country,” Bill Maher concluded in a callback to Damon’s 1997 Oscar-winning movie Good Will Hunting.
Earlier this year, in a monologue praising Joe Biden’s handling of the presidency (which was a questionable take even then) and decrying ageism, the latter which is a very legitimate issue, Maher chided millennials for their gullibility and stupidity.

The problem isn’t that I don’t get what you’re saying or that I’m old. The problem is that your ideas are stupid…
