Missouri Rep. Cori Bush, one of the country’s loudest “defund the police” advocates, reportedly hired two sheriff’s deputies to provide her private security, signaling that what she’s really about is defunding other people’s police — not hers.
This astonishing revelation — one that really highlights the Democrat lawmaker’s notorious hypocrisy — was made by accident by St. Louis Sheriff Vernon Betts.
While Bush was touring St. Louis’s jails last April with her two moonlighting hires, the trio was spotted by Betts, according to local station KMOV.
“Betts [said] he was surprised to see the two security guards because they also worked for him. The sheriff [said] Jackson and Thompson violated policy by not getting approval to work a secondary shift as security guards,” the station reported Friday.
The two reportedly also lacked private security licenses. As such, they were told by Betts to stop moonlighting as Bush’s private security guards, but two weeks later he got word that they were still at it. And so with no other option, he fired them.
The two are now reportedly suing on the grounds that their termination was “unfair and unjust”:
As for Bush, what’s known is that she’s used at least $70,000 in campaign funds — i.e., voluntary donations from the public — to fund her private security.
What’s also known is that she feels no discomfort about using other people’s money to fund her own security, even as she pushes to “defund the police” amid an uptick in violence. In fact, she recently argued that she’s special and thus deserves protection.
“I’m going to make sure I have security because I know I have had attempts on my life. And I have too much work to do; there are too many people that need help right now for me to allow that,” she said in a CBS News interview.
“So if I end up spending $200,000, if I spend ten more dollars on it, you know what, I get to be here to do the work, so suck it up. And defunding the police has to happen,” she added.
The comments sparked massive backlash, though, at the time, the public wasn’t aware that members of her private security team were police officers themselves.

This new finding has the public seething with rage.
Look:
Help me understand here, @CoriBush. This would be quite the opposite of defunding the police, no? You’re preaching “defund the police” while you personally fund the police for your own protection. Tough to be more of a giant hypocrite than you. https://t.co/hD9hC6dJkY

@CoriBush you are nothing but a hypocrite!!!! You pay for protection but not for citizens!!!

@CoriBush Did you have to work hard to be a hypocrite, or do you come by it naturally? Defund the police? Nope, it is you that needs to be defunded.

No, this reprobate @CoriBush is a hypocrite. Defunding the police advocate while having police protection. Can’t get any LOWER than that.

@CoriBush Does the hypocrisy ever end? What do you tell your constituents in the most unsafe city in the country? Let’s defund the police but I’m very important so the taxpayers will foot the bill for my private security. And no your not more important than anyone else.

All this comes as rampant crime continues unabated in St. Louis.
“St. Louis police were called to three separate shootings in 30 minutes early Thursday morning,” according to a separate KMOV report.
The first shooting involved five men inside a black SUV opening fire on a car containing three people. The second shooting involved two people entering an unlocked home and engaging in a shootout with the resident. And the final shooting involved a 20-year-old man reportedly sustaining a shot to the torso.
According to reports, last year St. Louis sustained a higher homicide rate than seen in the city for 50 years.
“On the last day of 2020, St. Louis leaders read 262 names aloud from a church podium — each name representing a person killed in the city over the previous 12 months. Their deaths brought the city’s homicide rate to a level 30% higher than any of the past 50 years, records show,” the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported at the start of the year.
Bush’s apparent solution to this is to “defund the police,” even if that means more innocent people dying left and right.
As for the notion of her dying because of violent crime, it’s one she can’t even fathom.
“They would rather I die? You would rather me die? Is that what you want to see? You want to see me die? You know, because that could be the alternative,” she’d said during her recent CBS News interview in response to critics complaining about her hypocrisy.
Of course, another alternative would be for nobody (or, more realistically, fewer people) to die via increased police funding, but in her world, it seems other people don’t matter …
@CoriBush You are a terrible person. Who cares about everyone else, only care about me me me. I am better than everyone and only my life matters. Ignorant and want to do nothing but divide. Sickening. 👎🏻👎🏻
