That Andrew Cuomo gave his employer — the people of New York — two weeks’ notice that he was quitting as governor is insufficient to hold him accountable for his official misconduct, according to one elected Democrat. “Let’s finish the job,” Assemblyman Ron Kim insists, because “resignation is not accountability.”
Assemblyman Kim maintains that the state legislature should move ahead with impeachment in the context of Cuomo’s disastrous decision to send COVID-positive patients into nursing homes, allegedly resulting in thousands of fatalities, including the in-laws of Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean. Kim also lost a close relative to the virus.
Impeachment would prevent Cuomo from any political comeback, i.e., trying to seek elective office again.
In a statement upon Gov. Cuomo’s resignation on Tuesday in the aftermath of the state attorney general’s investigation into sexual harassment allegations, Kim issued the following statement:
“Today marks a new day in New York State Government. No longer will we be held back by the circus created by Andrew Cuomo and his enablers. Finally, we can return to the proper work and deliver for our constituents. I want to thank the brave women who came forward and shared their truths, as well as the Sexual Harassment Working Group for helping us find our moral compass. Resignation is not accountability. We will continue to pursue justice for the 16,000 nursing home families who are reeling from the failures of this administration.”

Kim was the first Democrat to call for Cuomo’s impeachment following the revelation that a Cuomo staffer admitted in a February 2021 meeting with top Democrat officials that, for political reasons, Cuomo’s administration withheld information on nursing home deaths from the federal government.
Almost alone in the media that otherwise fawned over the governor for his so-called leadership during the pandemic, Dean emerged as a strong voice demanding accountability on Cuomo’s part.
As noted above, Kim — who represents a district in Queens, New York City — also suffered a family tragedy when his uncle, a nursing home resident and U.S. Army veteran, passed away “in excruciating pain” from COVID. The deceased man sponsored his nephew’s immigration to the U.S. where the lawmaker says he achieved the American Dream.
Kim has previously claimed that Cuomo personally called him and threatened to destroy his political career and subsequently tried to get him to water down his criticism of the governor’s handling of the crisis.

In an emotional interview on Fox & Friends this morning embedded below in two parts that reunited friends Dean and Kim, the lawmaker insisted that Cuomo’s resignation omitted any acknowledgment of responsibility for abuse of power.
“The women who have been sexually harassed, the older adults who deserve the justice that we have been seeking deserve a real apology with full responsibility, and that’s not what we got out of him yesterday,” Kim asserted.
Kim added that the legislature “should absolutely” go forward on the impeachment process “because we’ve already spent the resources, time, and money to get this far in the impeachment investigation, so let’s finish the job. Let’s get it done in an efficient, expeditious way, to get to the truth…
“His biggest criminal act, in my opinion, is committing public fraud. He suppressed—he ordered his people to suppress life-and-death data at the peak of the pandemic.
“Information that we could have been used to legislate, to save people’s lives, he took that away from us because he was chasing down a $5.1 million dollar book deal. That is criminal,” Ron Kim declared.
During the conversation, Janice Dean expressed disappointment that Joe Biden claimed — without evidence — that Andrew Cuomo did “a hell of a job” as governor. “I think Joe Biden needs to learn the facts about what this governor has done,” Dean diplomatically said.
Biden’s Justice Department has already dropped a federal investigation of the nursing home scandal.

With regard to Biden, Tara Reade separately says that Joe has some explaining to do about his own alleged misbehavior.
“My heart is with the brave Cuomo survivors who endured attempts to discredit them like I did coming forward about Joe Biden with the help of non-profits that were supposed to help women like Time’s Up. May there be some measure of justice for the survivors. Now, let’s call for a real investigation into Joe Biden and expose the corruption protecting powerful predators,” she told Fox News.
“I hope for justice. Cuomo resigned today and Biden should also resign.”
Reade also called out the apparently politicized Times Up Legal Defense Fund for its purported failure to assist her in any material way after she went public with her accusations against Biden. “Time’s Up committed the most hideous betrayal to protect their most powerful friends and not only not protect survivors but cause harm,” she said.
Reade claims that Joe Biden allegedly sexually assaulted her in 1993 when she was an aide in the then-Delaware Senator’s Capitol Hill office. Biden has denied this allegation.
