Rand Paul unloads on leftwing ‘cretins’ at YouTube for banning him: ‘a badge of honor’

Big Tech continues to dispel any notion that the social media platforms they own are bastions of free speech, making it clear that they alone determine what’s appropriate and making no bones about censoring users.

Even censoring U.S. senators, although the silencing of a sitting U.S. president in 2020 foretold where this was heading.

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., a physician, had his YouTube account suspended Tuesday for seven days for saying cloth masks are ineffective in fighting COVID-19 — the science here is murky, at best.

“This resulted in a first strike on the channel, which means it can’t upload content for a week, per our longstanding three strikes policy,” a spokesperson said, according to CNN. “We apply our policies consistently across the platform, regardless of speaker or political views, and we make exceptions for videos that have additional context such as countervailing views from local health authorities.”

Oddly, their “consistent” application of policy rarely affects those on the left.

A second strike could bring a two-week suspension, and a third infraction could result in a permanent ban from YouTube.

Paul’s account is still visible, but he can’t upload any new content for the next week and the video, which was considered  “COVID misinformation,” was removed.

Paul responded to YouTube, which is owned by Google, on Twitter.

“A badge of honor . . . leftwing cretins at Youtube banning me for 7 days for a video that quotes 2 peer reviewed articles saying cloth masks don’t work,” he said, while linking to a site where the deleted video can be seen.

“Saying cloth masks work, when they don’t, actually risks lives, as someone may choose to care for a loved one with COVID while only wearing a cloth mask. This is not only bad advice but also potentially deadly misinformation,” Paul said in the deleted video.

“Most of the masks you get over the counter don’t work. They don’t prevent infection,” he added.

Last week, YouTube removed a video that he posted of his interview with Newsmax, where he discussed the science behind wearing masks during the pandemic.

The libertarian lawmaker blasted them on Twitter, steering followers to Rumble:

“They are now banning all my speech, including speech that is given on the Senate floor, which is protected constitutional,” Paul told reporters on Tuesday, according to Yahoo News. “YouTube now thinks they’re smart enough and godly enough that they can oversee speech, even constitutionally protected speech.”

“I think this kind of censorship is very dangerous, incredibly anti-free speech, and truly anti-progress of science, which involves skepticism and argumentation to arrive at the truth,” he added.

Paul’s suspension came on the same day that Twitter suspended U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., for one week.

On Monday, Greene tweeted that the Food and Drug Administration “should not approve the covid vaccines,” claiming the vaccines were “failing” and that they “do not reduce the spread of the virus [and] neither do masks.”

What is apparently appropriate on Twitter is wishing death on Rand Paul, as seen from a social media user who wished that the senator’s neighbor was stronger — this being a reference to a neighbor attacking Paul and breaking several ribs, resulting in the eventual removal of part of his lung.
