The Biden administration is raging mad and reportedly “scared to death” over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis standing up to their bullying.
In a widely praised speech Wednesday, the governor defended his liberty-focused coronavirus policies from the administration’s attacks while simultaneously drawing attention to the arguably nonsensical, irrational nature of their own policies.
The fiery rebuke to Biden ended with the following: “Why don’t you do your job? Why don’t you get this border secure? And until you do that, I don’t wanna hear a blip about COVID from you, thank you.”
This in turn provoked an immediate response from the White House.
Responding directly to the governor’s remarks, White House press secretary Jen Psaki claimed in a tweet that Florida’s hospitals “are being overwhelmed again” but that the Biden administration is “doing everything we can to help the people of FL”
“[W]e hope @GovRonDeSantis joins us in this fight,” she then smarmily added.
Look:
23% of new COVID hospitalizations in the U.S are in Florida, and their hospitals are being overwhelmed again.
We are doing everything we can to help the people of FL, and they’re stepping up by getting vaccinated – we hope @GovRonDeSantis joins us in this fight. https://t.co/53y97ngQ4E
— Jen Psaki (@PressSec) August 4, 2021
She was lying.
According to The News-Press, a newspaper out of Fort Myers, top officials within “Florida’s largest health care systems” confirmed during a roundtable Wednesday with the governor “that, despite a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases, their hospitals are not overwhelmed and remain safe for staff and patients.”
“Orlando Health CEO David Strong told DeSantis that COVID-19 cases may be plateauing at his health centers. He said that, despite the fact that pandemic cases are peaking, people should not postpone health screenings or needed medical procedures as they did last year,” the newspaper reported.
Meanwhile, Tampa General CEO John Couris confirmed that, despite an uptick in cases, there are still more than enough beds open for elective procedures.
“There’s no question, governor, that our ERs are full and we are busy, that we have the most COVID patients that we’ve ever had through the pandemic. But we are a large hospital.” He added: “Our elective schedules are open and we’re operating. But we’re watching all of this hour by hour,” he reportedly said.
Psaki also lied by insinuating that the Florida governor hasn’t been doing everything in his power to encourage his constituents to get vaccinated.
DeSantis has championed vaccination, especially among the most vulnerable — for which he was attacked and smeared.

DeSantis has *repeatedly* promoted the vaccines on local & national TV — focusing, correctly, on the most vulnerable Floridians — presiding as shots go into arms, live on-air. Hasn’t been subtle. Smearing him as insufficiently committed to COVID vaxxing is politics, not reality. pic.twitter.com/LjvFuZCKC1

FYI, this particular lie has also been repeated by the “Never Trumper” types at Bill Kristol’s The Bulwark:
This tweet from April appears to be the last time DeSantis tweeted encouragement for Floridians to get vaccinated. https://t.co/P5f4j0AEZs

But Psaki wasn’t just lying — she was also deflecting. As noted by a flurry of critics who promptly pounced on her in defense of the Florida governor, she’d failed in her tweet to address any of the points he’d raised.
Look:
Notice how she won’t address the border? DeSantis is right.

Gov. DeSantis isn’t releasing COVID-positive illegal aliens into the country every day, unlike this administration. Maybe start there.
— John Cooper (@thejcoop) August 4, 2021
Has your addled boss closed the border yet? Is he testing the people pouring over it for COVID yet? No? Then shut up. @PressSec https://t.co/2dOpN2X8iA

I don’t think dropping bus loads of infected illegal immigrants off in Florida is really helping the people of FL
— Travis (@TWines4congress) August 5, 2021
If this were true, why did liberals from NY and DC flee to Free Florida?
Also since Florida is so awful, plz seal off border from NY and DC so that no one can go to dangerous Florida.
— Cernovich (@Cernovich) August 4, 2021
In his speech Wednesday, DeSantis correctly noted that the administration has been allowing thousands of COVID-positive illegal aliens to stream across the border unhindered.
“Not only are they letting them through, they’re then farming them out all across our communities, across this country, putting them on planes, putting them on buses. Do you think they’re being worried about COVID for that? Of course not,” he said.
“So he’s facilitating who knows what new variants are out there. But I can tell you, whatever variants are around the world, they’re coming across that southern border. And so he’s not shutting down the virus; he’s helping to facilitate it in our country,” he added.
Unlike the White House press secretary, he was telling the truth.

NEW: The city of McAllen, TX says the federal government has released over 7,000 COVID positive migrants into their city since February, including over 1,500 new infected migrants in just the *last week alone*. A local state of disaster in McAllen has been declared. @FoxNews

According to a White House source who spoke with John Cardillo, the reason that Psaki had felt compelled to respond directly to DeSantis — and with desperate lies and smears, to boot — is because “the White House is scared to death” of him.
Source in and out of the WH daily just told me “The WH is scared to death of DeSantis.”
— John Cardillo (@johncardillo) August 4, 2021
This fear and paranoia don’t appear to be mutual, as demonstrated by the way the Florida governor’s press secretary, Christina Pushaw, chose to respond to Psaki’s trash-talking: By thanking her for the free publicity.
Look:
Thanks @PressSec for retweeting the clip of @GovRonDeSantis remarks today! It’s great that his common-sense message of freedom from the biomedical security state will reach a broader audience. https://t.co/b6y2IRI6Vp pic.twitter.com/EOU0dK3yQa
