Though The First host Bill O’Reilly greatly detests the misinformation and disinformation constantly peddled by the establishment press, he doesn’t support censoring them.
In an interview last week with the Washington Examiner, the legendary former Fox News host accused mainstream media outlets of purposefully using misinformation and disinformation — also known as lies — to attack their ideological opponents.
Their ideological opponents are, of course, Republicans.

But whereas the media used to just attack hosts like him, these days every Republican is a potential target.
“Anyone or any business or any enterprise can be destroyed by a moron. That’s where we are in this world. I mean, it’s pretty damn frightening,” he told the Examiner.
The “morons” aren’t always members of the mainstream press, but more often than not they are.
“O’Reilly, forced out of Fox after harassment allegations, charged that media critics will make up false stories about their targets or cite anonymous sources in ‘hit’ pieces,” according to the Examiner.
Their latest target, he added, is clearly Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
“I’ve seen it for 25 years. So now, they’re after Tucker Carlson. They’re going to do whatever they can to try to destroy him,” he said.
They’ve been relentlessly trying for years to take him down, but ever since former President Donald Trump left office — and thus the media lost their favorite bogeyman — Carlson has become public enemy number one to them.
CNN’s Brian Stelter straight-up admitted it in March, saying, “Tucker Carlson is the new Donald Trump.”

Carlson has always been Carlson, an unabashedly blunt and honest commentator with right-leaning populist views.
The only thing that’s changed is that the media need a new target for their rage bait — specifically, a new target to distract voters from the Democrat Party’s failed policies.
The good news for Carlson is that he possesses the clout, power and respect to withstand the left’s attacks. The same can’t be said for millions of everyday Americans.
“It is ridiculous because lives are being ruined, businesses are being ruined, people are being tortured, and there is absolutely no regulation at all. I don’t believe in censorship, but you got to have an editor, you know?” O’Reilly noted to the Examiner.
But even that wouldn’t make a difference, because the fact remains that it’s the editors who are purposefully choosing to run with hit pieces — poorly sourced, mostly false ones — both for ratings and also to fulfill their ideological agenda.
They purposefully rushed to attack and try and destroy the Covington Catholic High School boys because their now-debunked narrative made young, white pro-life students look bad.
They purposefully ran with the now-debunked Brian Sicknick murdered narrative because it made former President Donald Trump and his supporters look bad.
And last month The Guardian purposefully published a Russian collusion delusion story last month from a known Russian collusion delusion smear merchant who was repeatedly exposed for publishing pure garbage during the Trump presidency.
Why? Because the story promised both big ratings and more anti-Trump rage:
The part of the media that feigns anger at misinformation is uncritically promoting a story today by Luke Harding that Russia was blackmailing Trump — the same Harding who has published many false stories, championed the Steele Dossier and claimed Trump was long a Russian agent. pic.twitter.com/6gL7XT59cz

It was Harding who published was one of the most sensationalized stories of the Trump era: that Manafort repeatedly met Assange in the Ecuadorian Embassy. It was utterly fabricated. Everyone knows it’s bullshit, never happened. Yet the Guardian has never corrected or retracted it pic.twitter.com/v86Xzr7hHt

As noted above by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald, the tragic irony is that the media figures who publish the most misinformation and disinformation are the loudest proponents for censoring “misinformation” and “disinformation.”
Except they don’t define misinformation and disinformation by their real definitions — they define them based on whether the information being provided enhances or hurts their preferred narrative. The since-confirmed Hunter Biden laptop story is a perfect example of this.
One of the clearest and most important sentences you’ll read, showing how US media really works, from WashPost op-ed by @RidT:
** “We must treat the Hunter Biden leaks as if they were a foreign intelligence operation — even if they probably aren’t.” **https://t.co/T7LUOvorlI
— Glenn Greenwald (@ggreenwald) October 25, 2020
Media outlets, to justify their refusal to report on the Hunter Biden/China documents before the election, disseminated two primary claims:
1) This was Russian disinformation and 2) the documents’ authenticity is in doubt.
Both of those claims were false. Anyway, moving on.

O’Reilly prefers to define misinformation and disinformation by their actual definitions. But unlike the mainstream establishment press, he doesn’t believe in silencing and censoring anybody, even shameless liars.
