Dr. Doom: Fauci warns ‘things are going to get worse’ as COVID Delta variant spreads

Dr. Anthony Fauci is warning anew about COVID-19 amid rising infections around the country stemming from the new Delta variant.

Fauci, the country’s lead immunologist who is also the Biden administration’s chief medical adviser, warned Sunday “things are going to get worse” again and that America will no doubt see additional “pain and suffering” as the Delta variant, which is reportedly more infectious, is driving a surge of cases around the country.

In an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” host Jonathan Karl asked Fauci if the country is likely to return to a broad state of lockdown as happened last year at the beginning of the pandemic, or if the current outbreak is merely a “temporary setback.”

“John, I don’t think we’re gonna see lockdowns,” Fauci assured.

“I think we have enough of the percentage of people in the country — not enough to crush the outbreak — but I believe enough to not allow us to get into the situation we were in last winter,” Fauci added.

That said, the head of the National Institutes of Allergies and Infections Diseases lamented how fast the seven-day average of new cases has risen, adding that some 100 million Americans have not yet been fully vaccinated for the original strain of COVID-19.

“We are seeing an outbreak of the unvaccinated,” Fauci continued, repeating what other health experts have also said about the latest surge in cases.

Fauci went on to note that though there have been some breakthrough cases among individuals who have been vaccinated, that is not unexpected because no vaccines are effective 100 percent of the time.

“So we’re looking not, I believe, to lockdown, but we’re looking to some pain and suffering in the future because we’re seeing the cases go up, which is the reason why we keep saying over and over again: The solution to this is get vaccinated and this would not be happening,” Fauci said.

The ever-changing guidance coming from the Biden administration, Fauci, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have caused a great deal of confusion and consternation among millions of Americans, many of whom have openly stated they don’t know what to believe — or trust — regarding the vaccine.

Independent journalist Alex Berenson, who has been tracking the pandemic since it began and often posts data and information from studies and sources often ignored by media outlets, tweeted a clip of an interview in May where Fauci, citing available data, said breakthrough infections were not a problem for vaccinated Americans.

Wow. I thought this might be a deepfake. Nope. It’s just the OLD science from May, when Fauci and @cdcgov thought dropping mask rules would get people to be vaccinated, not to be confused with the NEW science from this week, when they’ve realized they were wrong. Science!” he tweeted along with the clip.

Noting that the then-new guidance on masking was “confusing people,” CBS News host John Dickenson asked Fauci to explain “what had changed” from a few weeks before when the CDC said vaccinated people “were safer wearing masks.”

“What’s happened has been an accumulation of data…showing the real-world effectiveness of vaccines,” Fauci began. “It is even better than the clinical trials, well over 90 percent protecting you against disease, number one.

“Number two, a number of papers have come out in the past couple of weeks showing that the vaccine protects even against the variants that are circulating,” he added, noting further it seemed “unlikely” that anyone who is vaccinated, “even if there is a breakthrough infection, would transmit it to someone else.”

The CDC last week issued new guidance again recommending mask-wearing in public venues, even for vaccinated people, as well as for kids returning to in-person classroom education this fall.
