Former Trump administration officials Stephen Miller and Larry Kudlow both take issue with a stunning op-ed published in The New York Times this week that argues that citizenship shouldn’t matter when it comes to voting.
Speaking on Fox News’ “Fox News Primetime” this Friday, Miller said that the piece was basically arguing that Americans should voluntarily “erode and ultimately erase the very idea of American citizenship” itself.
“Voting is not just a right; it’s also a responsibility. You have to learn our country’s history, its culture, its language, its values to be able to make an informed decision about voting. That’s why this country has a naturalization process — a lawful process to go through to learn who we are and what we’re about,” he said.

The naturalization process is indeed of paramount importance, which is why the Trump administration opted to make the U.S. citizenship test more difficult.
“The Trump administration last year doubled the length of the civics test, updating it to require applicants to answer 12 out of 20 questions correctly to pass. Immigrants were previously required to correctly answer six out of 10 total questions,” U.S. News & World Report notes.
“The Trump administration also increased the number of potential questions from 100 to 128, expanding the amount of information immigrants must study in preparation for the exam,” according to U.S. News.
However, current President Joe Biden has since reversed that decision, and according to Miller, that’s no coincidence. It’s part of a longtime effort by the Democrat Party to tear down the foundations of this country.
The Biden admin dropped the Trump-era U.S. citizenship test, which was longer and critics said was designed to discourage naturalization.

“When Susan Rice, who is currently the head of the Domestic Policy Council, when she says what she did a few days ago that Dreamers are Americans, she’s engaged in purposeful lying, and she’s engaged in an attack on the English language. Americans are Americans, citizens are citizens and Dreamers, so-called, are illegal immigrants,” he said.
He added that it’s a problem “when we deprive people of this country of their language, of their ability to be able to speak clearly and to say no … you are not an American, you don’t have the right to vote in our elections, you do not have the right to occupy American jobs.”
“These are not controversial thoughts. These are basic fundamental ideas to what it means to have and to keep a nation,” he noted.
The problem is that the left has convinced a plethora of Americas that these fundamental ideas — that naturalization shouldn’t be easy, that non-citizens aren’t entitled to the same rights as citizens — are fundamentally racist.
The left has also convinced non-citizens themselves.
Speaking on his eponymously named Fox Business Network show “Kudlow,” former Trump era National Economic Council director Larry Kudlow noted that the author of the Times’ op-ed “is a citizen of Switzerland, Canada and Iran” but not yet the U.S.
Despite only having permanent residency, the author nevertheless has been led to believe she’s entitled to a vote. Kudlow disagreed.
“Well, my response is, so go and become a citizen. You’ve been here 15 years. What are you waiting for? My second response is stop whining and stop playing the victim!” he said.
“If you don’t like it here, move! Go to Switzerland, Canada, Iran, Havana, or Venezuela. I don’t care. We have sovereign borders in this country as do most other countries,” he added.

He further noted that non-citizens can’t vote in her home country of Iran.
“In fact, votes in Iran mean nothing anyway and this reminds me of democratic open border policies which are letting in a million illegals this year while, at the same time, the Democratic high command is violently opposed to photo voter IDs to vote,” Kudlow continued.
“Think there’s a link there? Might well be, but I’m not into global citizenship and I’m so tired of all this left-wing whining. Like I said, if you don’t like it here, please feel free to leave. It’s a free country but then again, that’s why you came here in the first place. So, stop whining about it,” he concluded.
Titled “There Is No Good Reason You Should Have to Be a Citizen to Vote,” the Times op-ed was published Wednesday and written by Atossa Araxia Abrahamian, a woman who purports to be a “journalist.”
She currently lives in New York City, where she’s already been granted some unearned voting privileges by the city’s far-left officials. However, she’s hopeful that other non-citizens will one day be able to vote for members of Congress as well.
“I’m looking forward to the City Council giving me, and the other million or so friendly aliens living here, the right to vote for New York’s officials. But we should be able to vote for our representatives in Washington, too,” she wrote.
“I hope that Democrats seize their chance, and realize the power and the enthusiasm of their potential constituents. They — and we — will not regret it,” she added.
