A fed-up Georgia mother permanently pulled her children from school this week after their local school district reinstituted a mask mandate as per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s highly criticized new protocols.
Speaking Friday on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom,” Holly Terei said that she’s had enough of others trying to “co-parent” her children with her.
“I decided to come to this decision because I do not co-parent with my school board, I do not co-parent with the CDC and I certainly do not co-parent with this administration. Our schools have zero authority to be imposing health mandates over our students,” she said.
She added that she’d been willing to tolerate the district’s original mask mandate last year but stressed that the situation has clearly changed since then.
“I compromised last year when they allowed our students to go back into the building. I compromised — many parents did — and we put the masks on our children, but no more. Here in Georgia, we have numerous large districts that are still keeping their masks optional,” she said.

Terei went on to note the deleterious effects the original mask mandate had on her children.
“My youngest child was born with a cleft lip, and she’s a craniofacial child with a lot of cranial facial abnormalities, so we have spent thousands and thousands of dollars in order for our child to breathe. And for her to come home and pull her mask off and just take a deep breath and say, “Mommy, I could finally breathe! Mommy, my head hurt all day!'” she said.
“My other daughter is going into fifth grade, and she explains to me how she feels like when people wear masks, none of the kids talk; they don’t socialize. Everybody feels isolated and acts isolated with the mask on. She misses lunch in the cafeteria, sitting next to her friends, playing on the playground,” she added.
This isn’t right, she continued, and for what? Terei claimed it’s all about the money.
“Our children are sacrificing so much, and at the end of the day, I believe it all comes down to the mighty dollar. Georgia has received over four billion dollars in federal funding, and mask mandates for our school districts is tied to that funding,” she said.
It’s true that Georgia received $4 billion from the $1.9 trillion relief bill signed by President Joe Biden in March, but it’s not clear whether the funding included any stipulations. Terei remains convinced nevertheless.
“It’s not genuine concern that is motivating our school district. We feel like it is funding, and we’ve just had enough,” she said.
She’s not alone in her frustration.
Atlanta station WXIA notes that numerous parents, including Terei, protested outside the Gwinnett County Public Schools headquarters late Friday afternoon.
Speaking with the station, Terei stressed that she and the other parents “are more than capable” of making medical decisions for their own children.
“At the end of the day, we do not feel that it is the school system’s right to impose a health mandate. That’s really what it comes down to,” she said.

Speaking with a separate Atlanta station, WAGA, another participant, Sheri Mitchell, questioned the claim that masks are necessary because the numbers are up.
“With the numbers being up, what does that exactly mean. I don’t see the numbers as being that high. When you see the numbers, we’re gonna have to live with COVID in our communities, Just like the flu goes up. The flu numbers are gonna go up each year,” she said.
A 6th grade student, Jasmine Ghiurau, added that the mask mandate is “annoying.”
“It’s honestly like so annoying. We come back from P.E or recess and we have to wear our mask in the hallway and you can’t breathe,” she said.
As for Terei, her plan is to look into home schooling and virtual learning options for the upcoming school year. What she doesn’t plan to do, however, is participate “in the digital learning programs that” her local school district is offering.
In the meantime, she and several others parents have reportedly filed a lawsuit against Gwinnett County Public Schools.
All this comes days after the CDC shocked the nation by recommending that even the vaccinated start masking indoors again — and worse, refused to provide any scienetific justification for the bizarre guidance.

Even Jonah Goldberg, an avidly pro-vaccine, anti-Trump Republican of the Bill Kristol/George Will type, wrote that he’s had enough.
“The CDC wants us to go back to wearing masks indoors, even if you’ve been vaccinated. … If you’ll forgive a little testifying, I’ve tried hard to be reasonable throughout the pandemic. I’ve bent over backward to give public officials the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise,” he wrote for The Dispatch.
“So, with my self-indulgent celebration of my own reasonableness out of the way, I’m here to say that I’m done,” he added, reflecting an attitude that’s increasingly becoming prominent among the public, including among parents like Holly Terei.
