Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has effectively voted U.S. Reps. Jim Banks and Jim Jordan off the island in what Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is condemning as an “abuse of power.”
The two congressmen were set to serve on the so-called bipartisan select committee to investigate the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, but apparently they were too pro-Trump and too resistant to hyperbole, if not propaganda, for Pelosi’s liking, who has the final say.
“With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these Members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee. The unprecedented nature of January 6th demands this unprecedented decision,” Pelosi announced today.
Pelosi is evidently taking exception to the fact that both congressmen objected to the certification of the Election 2020 presidential outcome.
In her announcement, the speaker also claimed, “The violent domestic attack on Congress on January 6th was the worst assault on the Capitol since the War of 1812 and the worst domestic assault on American Democracy since the Civil War.”
House Minority Leader McCarthy released a statement of his own in response to this development:
“Speaker Nancy Pelosi has taken the unprecedented step of denying the minority party’s picks for the Select Committee on January 6. This represents an egregious abuse of power and will irreparably damage this institution. Denying the voices of members who have served in the military and law enforcement, as well as leaders of standing committees, has made it undeniable that this panel has lost all legitimacy and credibility and shows the Speaker is more interested in playing politics than seeking the truth.
“Unless Speaker Pelosi reverses course and seats all five Republican nominees, Republicans will not be party to their sham process and will instead pursue our own investigation of the facts.”
Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-New York, also released a statement decrying the “authoritarian” decision.

Earlier this week, Banks noted that if Democrats “were serious about investigating political violence” in their comprehensive probe, they’d also take a look at “the hundreds of violent political riots last summer when many more innocent Americans and law-enforcement officers were attacked.”
Banks (R-Ind.) is the chair of the Republican Study Committee and Jordan (R-Ohio) — who is nationally known for challenging the left’s agenda — is the ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee.
House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy had also picked moderate U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Ill., the ranking member on House Administration Committee, U.S. Rep. Kelly Armstrong, R-N.D. (one of seven House Republicans to sign a letter opposing the effort to object to the 2020 Electoral College), and U.S. Rep. Troy Nehls, R-Texas, a first-term lawmaker and a former county sheriff. McCarthy made his picks to represent the wide range of views held by GOP members in the lower chamber of Congress.

Pelosi found that trio acceptable and was geared up to ratify their appointments.
Pelosi herself selected RINO Rep. Liz Cheney to join seven Democrats for the commission who many on the right believe that has, more or less, already reached its conclusion that ordinary, peaceful, law-abiding, conservative-leaning Americans — who had nothing to do with the lawbreakers at the Capitol — are to blame before even the convening first meeting.
Cheney was a natural for Pelosi in that she was recently ousted from the Republican leadership for her anti-Trump bias and will likely be compliant with the Democrat narrative.
Despite McCarthy’s decision, Liz Cheney will probably continue inasmuch as she was handpicked by Pelosi. Cheney’s participation will give what some are calling a sham investigation the veneer of bipartisanship, which the corporate media will amplify.
Reaction is emerging on social media (apart from the predictable Pelosi applause from left-wing Twitter).
Pelosi wants you to believe that ADAM SCHIFF, the biggest liar in all of Congress, is qualified to serve on their little anti-Republican witch hunt committee, but not the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee or the head of the RSC.
This whole thing is a total sham!!! https://t.co/r4jdjGYO0Z

. @SpeakerPelosi tells me she spoke with McCarthy about her decision to reject two of his picks to serve on the Jan. 6th commission.
I asked her why she made the decision. She told me “January 6th.” And left it at that. pic.twitter.com/hYUTu4UjGG

.@SpeakerPelosi’s January 6th commission has been politically motivated and partisan from the start. Rejecting @Jim_Jordan and @RepJimBanks proves that.https://t.co/FiMFkFLibb

lol Pelosi just banned @Jim_Jordan and @RepJimBanks from serving on the Jan 6 select committee.
This is NOT about getting to the truth. It’s political persecution from Democrats.
They will stop at nothing to take down Trump.
