U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., has been a GOP firebrand from day one on Capitol Hill, and there are no signs of her letting up anytime soon.
At the same time, there are consequences to standing out in a crowd to push for the things a person believes in — America, in this case — starting with placing a target on oneself.
On Monday, Greene was suspended from Twitter for 12 hours for allegedly sharing misleading claims about the coronavirus. The problem being, of course, who gets to determine what is or is not misleading. Around this time a year ago, the universally held belief today that COVID-19 escaped from a Wuhan, China lab was deemed to be “misinformation.”
The Twitter suspension amounts to a time out, as Greene’s page is still visible but she cannot tweet for 12 hours — the disciplinary action likely drew more attention to the tweets than they would have received otherwise.
According to a Twitter spokesperson, Greene’s offense was two tweets she sent out on Monday, The Hill reported. In the first, she opposed forced military vaccinations, claiming that COVID-19 is “not dangerous for non-obese people and those under 65.”
In the second tweet, Greene was responding to a Dr. David Samadi, who tweeted that in the United Kingdom, “47% of new COVID-19 cases are vaccinated people.” The GOP lawmaker tweeted, “This is why no entity should force NON-FDA approved vaccines or masks.”
The controversial #COVID19 vaccines should not be forced on our military for a virus that is not dangerous for non-obese people and those under 65.
With 6,000 vax related deaths and many concerning side effects reported, the vax should be a choice not a mandate for everyone. https://t.co/JhYg3acrrK

This is why no entity should force NON-FDA approved vaccines or masks.
Instead help people protect their health by defeating obesity, which will protect them from covid complications & death, and many other health problems.
We should invest in health, not human experimentation. https://t.co/I4zHqwabhi

Twitter tagged the first tweet with the warning: “This Tweet is misleading. Learn why health officials recommend a vaccine for most people.”
Breaking the monotony, the second tweet had this warning: “This Tweet is misleading. Find out why health officials consider COVID-19 vaccines safe for most people.”
The social media platform effectively advocated for taking the experimental vaccine being administered via a U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued emergency use authorization, having yet to be fully approved by the FDA.
A Twitter spokesperson said Greene’s tweets violated the following policies:
“You may not use Twitter’s services to share false or misleading information about COVID-19 which may lead to harm.”
“Content that is demonstrably false or misleading and may lead to significant risk of harm (such as increased exposure to the virus, or adverse effects on public health systems) may not be shared on Twitter.”
“As if I haven’t been canceled enough this past week, now Twitter has banned me for 12 hours,” Greene said during an appearance on Newsmax, just after the suspension was announced.
The remark being a reference to three private venues in California canceling the “America First” rally she was participating in with U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., last week
Greene explained in detail the basis for which she made the claims in her tweets:

In a statement to The Hill, the GOP lawmaker was more vocal about the action.
“Twitter, Facebook and the rest of the Silicon Valley Cartel are working hand-in-hand with the White House to censor Americans,” Greene said. “This is a Communist-style assault on free speech. I will not back down and I will continue [to] tell the truth to the American people.”
The suspension comes on the heels of President Joe Biden declaring that Facebook was “killing people” by allowing COVID-19 misinformation to spread — he later walked the remark back somewhat, claiming he meant the misinformation was killing people.
With the Delta variant sweeping the country and millions of leery Americans having yet to be vaccinated, the administration has adopted the “killing people” narrative to shame them into compliance, as the refrain has become familiar in the past week. It also comes as Biden falls short of his stated vaccination goals.
With illegal immigrants flowing across the U.S. southern border with Mexico at record levels, nearly 200,000 in the month of June alone, and every month topping the preceding month, there’s little emphasis on how often the virus is being imported or how it may be killing people when the administration allegedly ferries the migrants to cities across America.
Despite media interference, the crisis on the border is the result of Biden’s disastrous immigration policies.
