Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul has vowed to push for the repeal of the federal government’s travel mask mandate the moment the Senate returns from its lengthy Independence Day break next Monday.

“When the Senate returns to session, I will be introducing an immediate repeal of the mask mandate on planes. Enough! Time to stop this farce and let people travel in peace!” he tweeted Thursday afternoon.

Look:

A day after President Joe Biden took office in January, he signed an executive order directing federal agencies to begin implementing a mask mandate on all interstate travelers, including those at airports and in planes, trains, ferries and buses.

The mandate began being enforced on Feb. 1st with the expectation it’d expire on May 11th. However, the administration eventually extended it to Sept. 13th.

And so, even though almost 50 percent of the entire U.S. population and an overwhelming majority of elderly Americans have already been fully vaccinated, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Americans must continue masking up while traveling.

This fact has annoyed many, including Paul and his constituents, though in fairness, the senator has been complaining about mask mandates since before the federal government even began vaccinating Americans.

However, his complaints have been logical and sound. For instance, in December he complained about mask zealots who think that the coronavirus suddenly stops spreading when the stars align in a certain way.

“They’re the same people who think that COVID must spread after 10pm only, or that it makes sense to mandate a mask to enter a restaurant, only to take it off 10 feet later at your table,” he wrote in a tweet at the time.

Continuing his line of thinking, mask zealots are also the same people who thought that lockdown protests were dangerous but Black Lives Matter riots were perfectly safe.

Recall how early last summer, the same so-called “experts” who’d earlier lambasted lockdown protesters for allegedly endangering the lives of grandmothers and grandfathers, performed a 180 and became staunch supporters of the violent, destructive George Floyd riots.

“[W]e do not condemn these gatherings as risky for COVID-19 transmission. We support them as vital to the national public health and to the threatened health specifically of Black people in the United States,” over 1000 so-called public health “experts” hypocritically wrote in an open letter at the time.

Writing for Reason magazine, noted libertarian journalist and commentator Robby Soave noted at the time that the “experts,” scientists, media figures and political leaders who performed a 180 had demonstrated that they were willing to capriciously change their allegedly “sound” thinking based on nothing but politics.

“Media and government experts who fail to consistently call out social distancing violations risk giving the impression that their commitment to zealous enforcement of public health measures wasn’t as absolute as they claimed. It turns out they are willing to make exceptions for their preferred causes,” he wrote.

It’s a behavior that went on to repeat itself over and over and over again. The “experts” pushed to keep schools closed despite the science showing that children were at low risk of contracting the virus. The “experts” denied the lab leak theory despite the evidence pointing to it being legitimate. The “experts” defended China despite it being evident the communist nation was lying about everything.

And now, surprise, surprise, the same people who believed every false thing that the “experts” claimed are in a rush to condemn Paul for not following lockstep in the guidance of these allegedly esteemed “experts.”

Look:

Some things never change …

Despite this sycophantic worship of the “experts,” some Americans do appreciate Paul’s willingness to take a stand against mindless groupthink.
