Former President Donald Trump is reportedly raging about his eldest son’s girlfriend, former Fox News personality Kimberly Guilfoyle, after she joined the U.S. Senate campaign of Eric Greitens, who was forced to resign as Missouri’s governor in 2018 amid sexual assault and campaign finance allegations.
“Aides told [Politico] Playbook that Trump has been openly griping that Guilfoyle joined” Greitens’ “campaign for Senate in Missouri as national campaign chair, and he’s becoming increasingly short with Guilfoyle,” said the Friday edition of the weekday email offering.
“Trump thinks Greitens is problematic, and that Kim is annoying,” one Trump adviser allegedly told Playbook. “He said, ‘Why the f**k is she working for him?’”
The outlet went on to say that if the Missouri GOP Senate primary were held today, the former president would not endorse Greitens, who holds a large double-digit lead over the next-closest contender.
The reason, the adviser said, is the scandal that drove Greitens from office: Charges he tied up a St. Louis hairdresser with whom he had an affair in 2015 and then sexually assaulted and tried to blackmail her. Nevertheless, the former president’s onetime pollster, Tony Fabrizio, has Greitens up by 40 points in recent polling.
Greitens has filed to run for a U.S. Senate seat being vacated by GOP Sen. Roy Blunt, another former Missouri governor. But Trump is reportedly meeting with other candidates for the seat including U.S. Rep. Billy Long, who has traveled to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence to see him earlier this spring, and Missouri’s current attorney general, Eric Schmitt, who has twice visited Trump — once at Mar-a-Lago and once at his Bedminster, N.J., golf club.
Another Trump adviser said that an additional checkmark against Greitens is that he is associated with former Vice President Mike Pence because the VP’s former chief of staff, Nick Ayers, ran Greitens’ campaign for governor.
“Multiple advisers said Trump has been concerned that attaching Guilfoyle’s name to Greitens will look like an implicit endorsement from him,” Politico Playbook reported.
“The first warning it would not came in a Washington Examiner story in April by David Drucker about Guilfoyle’s new gig. It said her affiliation with Greitens would not even mean an endorsement from her boyfriend Donald Trump Jr., let alone his father,” the report continued.
The Playbook went on to mention rumors that Guilfoyle “is on the outs” anyway, adding that Trump’s former personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and his son, New York City GOP mayoral candidate Andrew Giuliani, are also pushing the former president to support Greitens.
Rudy Giuliani will be appearing at a rally with Greitens, a former U.S. Navy SEAL, in Robertsville, Missouri, near St. Louis, on Saturday.
As for the former Missouri governor, allegations against him were called into question in May after a report noted that the Show-Me State’s chief legal disciplinarian cited St. Louis prosecutor Kimberly Gardner “of sweeping misconduct in the failed prosecution” of Greitens, Just The News’ John Solomon reported.
Citing a memo from Chief Disciplinary Counsel Alan Pratzel, Solomon reported that Gardner was found to have “lied to judges in court filings and testimony, withheld exculpatory evidence from the defense, misled her own prosecution team and violated the constitutional right to a fair trial.”
In all, she committed “62 acts of misconduct that resulted in 79 false representations,” Solomon noted further, citing Pratzel’s memo.
“Probable cause exists to believe that the respondent is guilty of professional misconduct,” the chief counsel wrote.
Pratzel’s findings and disciplinary action against Gardner came after a 2019 indictment against her chief investigator in the case, former FBI agent William Tisaby, who was charged with seven felonies alleging perjury and evidence tampering in the Greitens case.
