Mainstream press outlets are being accused by social media users of giving noticeably soft treatment to two black teens from Washington, D.C., who murdered an Uber Eats driver earlier this year as they tried to steal his car.
In March, the two teens, then 13 and 15 who were armed with a taser, carjacked a vehicle belonging to Mohammad Anwar, 66, a Pakistani immigrant who attempted to prevent them from taking his vehicle.
Horrific video taken at the time showed the girls speeding away in the vehicle with Anwar holding onto his car on the driver’s side as the vehicle sideswiped a pole and careened down a DC street before overturning and coming to rest on its side.
The impact threw Anwar several feet, where he lay bleeding to death face down on a sidewalk. National Guard troops who had been deployed to the nation’s capital following the violent Jan. 6 protest and who were in the area immediately began helping the teens get out of the vehicle, with one of them expressing concern for her phone which was still in the car while ignoring the dying Anwar.
Subsequent reports noted that the two teens were arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department on felony murder and carjacking charges. The 15-year-old pleaded guilty to her charges and was sentenced in early June to a juvenile detention facility until she is 21. On Tuesday, a headline in The Hill noted that the younger teen was also sentenced, but the accompanying headline said nothing about the teen’s crime: Murder of Anwar.
“14-year-old sentenced to juvenile detention over carjacking of Uber Eats driver in DC,” the headline noted.
“A 14-year-old has been sentenced to juvenile detention over the fatal carjacking of an UberEats driver in Washington, D.C., according to multiple reports,” the story began.

Social media users took The Hill to task over the headline.
“You mean the carjacking that resulted in his MURDER?” wrote AdamInHTown.
“It was the pavement that killed this man. – The Hill,” another user wrote.
“I guess the killing of the Uber drive must seem irrelevant to the Hill?” said another user.
Others made similar comments.

Meanwhile, Tuesday’s New York Post ran the story as well, noting in its headline that the 14-year-old was sentenced for the “murder” of Anwar.
At the time of the incident, CNN was also dragged on social media for the way the left-wing network soft-peddled what happened. A tweet sent by the outlet with a link to the story said, “Police said the girls, 13 and 15, assaulted an Uber Eats driver with a Taser while carjacking him, which led to an accident in which he was fatally injured.”
“They brutally murdered him,” Katie Daviscourt, a videographer and journalist for The Post Millennial, wrote at the time.
“An Asian man was murdered on camera and CNN won’t say that because the murderers don’t fit the narrative,” Human Events senior editor Jack Posobiec added.
“Apparently CNN never heard of felony murder before,” said another Twitter user.
