Former Trump administration official Ric Grenell is warning that the Biden administration’s widely panned “16-cent” celebration is far more sinister than one might think, namely because of what it says about the country’s growing meekness.
Despite gas prices, lumber prices, and grocery prices all being significantly higher, the White House posted a tweet this week claiming that the price for putting together an average July 4th barbecue has dropped by 16 cents in the past year.
That’s a highly dubious claim in itself, but even if it’s true, Grenell isn’t impressed.
“Sixteen cents won’t get you on the other side of the Washington Post paywall, where all of the newsrooms in Washington, D.C., across the political spectrum, are celebrating the 16 cents,” he said Friday on Fox News’s “Hannity.”
“And so what happens in Washington, D.C., is that they read each other, they retweet each other, they recycle each other’s news, and then they go into the newsroom and they say, wow, this is such a popular story of saving 16 cents,” he added.
The cheapest subscription plan at The Washington Post is $29 per year, or $2.40 per month, for the paper’s “All-Access Digital” plan.

“What they never really realize is that they’re literally retweeting and talking among themselves. This is the problem of Washington. It’s so insular. I’m here in California. People mock this story,” Grenell continued.
“They know that when they drive to the grocery store, they just blew through way more money than 16 cents. And there’s a whole list of things that are more expensive. And so only in Washington, D.C., does this type of narrative work,” he added.
Grenell also noted that the White House is in on the circle jerk, which is why, when President Joe Biden demanded on Friday that reporters not press him with any “negative” questions going into the holiday weekend, they complied.
“Joe Biden will keep ignoring questions about foreign policy because he gets to, the media will allow him to when in Washington, D.C. But when you talk to regular people, they’re laughing,” he said.
The problem, he continued, is that it’s not a laughing matter. What people have to ask themselves is why in the world the administration thought that the public would celebrate its “16-cent” claim.
The reason why, Grenell suspects, is because the administration realizes that too many Americans are meekly choosing to believe anything the government says and do anything the government orders.
A perfect example, he explained, is found in how most of the public responded to last year’s widely draconian coronavirus lockdown orders.
Poll after poll found that a majority of Americans supported the orders, despite the lockdowns being disastrous for small business owners and the economy at large.
New legit poll shows Americans want to continue lockdown—and will be crying like babies when the economy actually does collapse, thanks to the lockdown. This is not a serious country. https://t.co/fmt4ZgjHCi pic.twitter.com/M1HEOaTZUm

“I’ve been very worried over the last year that we have too many Americans that are just falling prey to government directives. That’s not what America is about. We’re not supposed to be told to stay in our homes and lock our doors and not go out,” Grenell continued.
“Look, the warnings about health practices and COVID, they’re all good, but they’re warnings. They shouldn’t be mandates. I hope the American people start standing up and pushing back. The country that allows the government to dictate our behavior is the country that falls prey to totalitarianism and fascism pretty fast,” he added.
Americans supported the lockdowns because they blindly believed the claims of the government, no matter how inconsistent and irrational those claims were. For instance, they nodded in acceptance when the government said Black Lives Matter riots were safe, but coronavirus lockdown protests were somehow not.

“And I’m really worried that we don’t have enough Americans recognizing what the government is trying to do. Washington, D.C., corporate America, the media, they’re all in on this,” Grenell continued.
“We’ve got to push back and people need to speak up and they need to be supported when others speak up. So go to Facebook, go to social media, talk this weekend when you’re celebrating your freedoms and your independence, and speak out and don’t be afraid,” he added.
He wasn’t wrong. There’s a reason every single corporation, every single institution, every single media outlet, and every single government agency has been preaching the same message, no matter the issue.
They all support critical race theory, identity politics, and “wokeness.” They all supported the coronavirus lockdowns and mask mandates last year. And they all now seem to agree that Biden’s presidency has been mostly perfect, never mind the facts, which apparently don’t matter anymore.
