Ohio parents launch anti-CRT initiative, private school retaliates by expelling their students

A private school in Ohio has expelled three students after their mothers launched an initiative to push back against the inclusion of the highly controversial and ethnicity-based Critical Race Theory curriculum.

Administrators at the Columbus Academy, where tuition can be as much as $30,000 per year, sent letters to parents Andrea Gross and Amy Gonzalez, informing them that their kids won’t be permitted back at the school, Fox News reported Friday.

In the letters, school officials accused the mothers of “false and misleading attacks” on the institution, which includes K-12 grade, and its leaders via an “inflammatory” crusade that included making erroneous statements about students being exposed to bomb-sniffing dogs while on campus.

School officials said the mothers’ actions were tantamount to a violation of their contracts with the academy in which all parties pledge to build a “positive and constructive working relationship,” according to the outlet, which added that Gross had two kids in the school and Gonzalez had one.

The mothers “pursued a course of action that has been anything but civil, respectful and faithful to the facts,” said the letters which were signed by CA Head of School Melissa Soderberg and Board of Trustees President Jonathan Kass, according to Fox News. “Instead, you have engaged in a campaign against Columbus Academy through a sustained, and increasingly inflammatory, series of false and misleading attacks on the School and its leadership.”

“Your actions caused pain, and even fear for physical safety, among students, families, faculty, and staff,” the two officials continued, going on to cite a number of examples to include an alleged effort to withhold tuition from the school while working to redirect donations from CA, which the mothers have denied.

“You have taken steps to explore how you, and with your encouragement, others, could withhold tuition payments and place them in escrow until your demands are met,” said the two officials.

“You have also discussed pursuing charitable entity status for your organization, in the stated hope of persuading Columbus Academy donors to re-direct their contributions to your organization where you could use the funds as leverage to pursue your agenda

Both slammed school officials for punishing their children for their parents’ activism.

“This is an educational institution that has chosen to punish children for their parents asking questions,” Gonzalez said during an interview on Fox Digital. “The damage this does to the community — our children obviously, as well…”

“It’s ripping our community apart,” Gross interjected.

In January, the mothers formed the Pro-CA Coalition, which they said was part of a wider effort to what they described as “political extremism and a culture of fear and administration” at the private school.

The mothers said they’ve managed to collect sworn statements from other parents of kids at CA who have accused educators there of pushing left-wing curriculum regarding race and ethnicity while simultaneously discriminating against right-leaning opinions. Some 400 other parents of the academy are reported to have joined their campaign.

“The school’s retaliation will forever affect my innocent children,” said Gross in a statement posted at PR Newswire.

“We love Columbus Academy, the teachers, and the community so we decided to effectuate change from the inside,” she continued. “This is a clear message from the school to silence us and to intimidate and frighten the hundreds of other members in our Coalition.”
