Georgia Republican gubernatorial candidate Vernon Jones destroyed a CNN reporter during a brutal take-down at a campaign event this week, according to a viral video posted online.
“CNN is about controlling negroes,” Jones says in the video. “‘Controlling negroes.’ That’s what CNN’s about. They don’t want people of color to have conservative thoughts.”
Pointing at a man standing next to him, Jones adds: “He’s here to keep me from running, to keep me from being governor of the state. Why? Because liberals…they do not want blacks thinking for themselves.”
Jones served in the Georgia state House of Representatives as a Democrat from 1993-2001, and again from 2017-2021. He switched his political affiliation to Republican earlier this year when he filed as a gubernatorial candidate.

Jones was also a featured speaker at last year’s Republican National Convention.
“They’re here for Stacey Abrams,” Jones continued in the video, referencing the failed 2018 Democratic gubernatorial candidate and voting rights activist who is also running again in 2022. Abrams also served in the Georgia House and was the minority leader from 2011-2017.
Jones went on to discuss voting issues from last year’s election, addressing the CNN reporter directly.
“You know and I know that the drop-off boxes were not in the state statutes,” Jones said, referencing a change in last year’s voting rules that allowed for the addition of unmonitored drop-off points for mail-in ballots. Some have suggested they were used as depositories for fraudulent ballots, but that allegation has yet to be proven.
“You know and I know that the internet signature verification was not in the state statute,” Jones continued, referencing another change that Abrams and her voting rights group managed to secure through an agreement with GOP Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger a few months before the November election.
“Are you gonna investigate that? I want you to look in this camera right here — are you gonna investigate that?” Jones asked the reporter directly, who was noncommittal.
Jones went on to accuse the network of protecting a “liberal narrative” while adding that no one from CNN has had him on to explain.
“You know Joe Biden is a bigot and you don’t want me on there calling Joe Biden a bigot,” said the GOP contender.
Biden has often made racially disparaging comments but has seldom been held accountable for them by most media outlets.
Continuing, Jones went on to list several examples of Biden making such comments about blacks in particular, including the president’s suggestion that blacks are more susceptible to COVID-19 “because they don’t know how to go on the Internet.”
He also noted that Biden said earlier this month that black lawyers and business owners can’t be successful because “they don’t have accountants,” adding that he himself has an attorney and an accountant, both of whom are black “because they’re the best.”
“So, Joe Biden is a bigot — you know it and I know it,” Jones said as he continued to address the correspondent. “But CNN wants to put people on there that carry their narrative.
“CNN is bigoted. CNN is race-based, and CNN is racist, and they use you to carry out their racist agenda,” the GOP candidate charged.
