Steve Doocy unloads on Biden’s Energy Sec for exploiting condo tragedy, linking to Climate Change

A Florida congressman has slammed the politicized and “shameful” implication from President Joe Biden’s energy secretary that climate change is perhaps somehow linked to the tragic partial collapse of the Champlain Towers South condo in the Miami area.

“This is not the time for hot takes or to say something glib so you can get TV time,” U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) declared on “Fox & Friends” Wednesday, suggesting that the above-referenced official, Jennifer Granholm, was commenting prematurely in a CNN interview, during which she also touted Biden’s big-ticket infrastructure plan.

“Let’s actually get through the tragedy that currently exists,” the first-term federal lawmaker insisted.

“Let family members be able to bury their loved ones, or actually reconnect with their loved ones if they’re still alive in that rubble. To come out and to play your politics and to talk about climate change and sea-level rise, it’s not the time for that. She should be ashamed of herself. And frankly, anybody that sits there and nodding their head should be ashamed as well,” he said.

“Leave the politics for another day. We can come back to that later,” Donalds added. “It’s not going anywhere.”

Acknowledging that family members of potential victims understandably want answers in this very tough, heartbreaking situation, Donalds also urged “calm and patience” during the search-and-rescue process “because it takes time to dig through this rubble, and that “we just need everybody to continue sending help and prayers.”

The 12-story Surfside, Fla., condo suddenly collapsed at about 1:20 a.m. on Thursday, June 24.  Since then, first responders from all over Florida as well from other parts of the country and from around the world are assisting in the search through the debris for possible survivors. Potential approaching tropical storms could complicate the search effort.

An engineering investigation is also underway to determine the cause of the building crash. So far, 13 persons have been confirmed dead and about 150 are still missing.

“Fox & Friends” co-host Steve Doocy began the segment by including the Granholm soundbite and wondering about the appropriateness of Granholm playing politics “when they are still pulling bodies out of that building.”

The former Democrat governor of Michigan, Granholm has a law degree from Harvard University with apparently no particular background in science. Her comments about the Surfside tragedy may or may not be another example of the Democrat mantra about never letting a crisis go to waste.

Donalds separately scoffed at the Democrat and corporate media flip-the-script talking point that Republicans want to cut law enforcement funding because they didn’t vote for the $1.9 trillion economic stimulus package known as the American Rescue Plan Act.

When Doocy asked him if he accepted that unique premise, Donalds succinctly replied “Absolutely not — hell no.”

“[Democrats] are the ones that did it. They’re the ones that have been pushing this for more than a year…it’s their members of Congress on the Democrat side of the aisle who are constantly calling, advocating, and pushing for defunding the police.

“When this is going on through the presidential election last year, Joe Biden didn’t say a word. He did not exhibit leadership. He didn’t t tell the radical fringe of his party. So, no, it’s on them; it’s not on us. It’s that sample,” Donalds, who represents Florida’s 19th congressional district in the Fort Myers area, asserted.

Granholm’s remark that “obviously we don’t know fully” if climate change may have played a role in the building collapse prompted a significant response on Twitter. Here is a sampling:
