NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell seems bound and determined to put woke-ness before the game of football, in what appears to be a desperate effort to pander to the left and avoid the dangers of today’s cancel culture.
As an encore to the NFL’s full embrace of the Black Lives Matter political movement last year, which included stamping social justice messages in the end zones of every stadium, the league moved to celebrate Pride month on Monday — a month set aside to recognize those who choose to have sex with people of the same gender.
Never mind that the video shared online came with just two days left in the month.
“If you love this game, you are welcome here,” read an accompanying tweet from the official NFL account. “Football is for all. Football is for everyone. The NFL stands by the LGBTQ+ community today and every day.”
Behold, the video’s message: “Football is lesbian. Football is beautiful. Football is queer. Football is life. Football is exciting. Football is culture. Football is transgender. Football is queer. Football is heart. Football is power. Football is tough. Football is bisexual. Football is strong. Football is freedom. Football is American. Football is accepting. Football is everything. Football is for everyone.”

The video featured nothing more than white lettering against a black backdrop, the bleak display not indicative of the league’s enthusiasm, we are to assume. It ends with the iconic NFL shield adorned in rainbow colors — the gay community having long ago hijacked God’s rainbow as a representation of LGBTQ interests.
The release of the ad comes one week after Las Vegas Raiders defensive lineman Carl Nassib came out as the league’s first openly gay player on an active roster. The irony being that while Nassib was initially celebrated, the tone soon changed when people learned he was rumored to be a Trump supporter.
NFL diversity director Sam Rapoport spoke with Outsports about the new ad.
“I’m proud of the clear message this spot sends to the NFL’s LGBTQ+ fans: This game is unquestionably for you,” Rapoport said. “I will be playing its first line over and over in my head all season.”
NFL chief marketing officer Tim Ellis said, “This spot is about celebrating Pride, and the importance of inclusion. It’s imperative that we use our voice and leverage the NFL platform to drive positive change, which includes supporting what our players care about and what they stand for.”
All of which is consistent with Goodell’s support for liberal issues.
“The NFL stands with the black community, the players, clubs and fans confronting systemic racism,” Goodell said last year. “We will not relent in our work.”
The commissioner recognized the left’s police brutality narrative that is not backed by data, and all but apologized to radical left former player Colin Kaepernick.
“We, the National Football League, condemn racism and the systematic oppression of black people,” Goodell said in a video released after the death of George Floyd. “We, the National Football League, admit we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest. We, the NFL, believe Black Lives Matter.”
The NBA, led by prima donna left-wing star LeBron James, has thoroughly turned off many of its fans, falling off a ratings cliff since last year, according to FitsNews — the league is seeing a bit of an upswing in playoff games.
With the NBA setting new lows, Major League Baseball was eager to join them. After stamping “BLM” on pitcher mounds last year, Commissioner Rob Manfred followed that up by moving the All-Star game out of Georgia this year after the Republican-led legislature passed legislation to shore up election integrity in the state — an effort the media erroneously reported as voter suppression.
And Goodell apparently does not want to be left out, even though TV viewership of NFL games remains down.
“Even worse, league ratings remain 20.3 percent below 2015 levels … which was the season before former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick initiated a wave of player protests by taking a knee during the playing of America’s national anthem prior to a 2016 preseason game,” FitNews reported last month.
Here’s a quick sampling of the responses to the story from Twitter:
Is football for Christians? What about Catholics? Is football for Christian families that don’t want to have debauchery paraded in front of children’s faces?

“Football Is Gay”?!?! LOLOL Epic messaging fail!
Good luck refilling seats this fall with your new targeted audience which represents less than 5% of the country and would rather watch the WNBA 😂

Yet ANOTHER reason why college football is about a zillion times better than the NFL. Hey, I have an idea: skip all the “woke” social justice BS and just play some f*cking football!!

I used to “love the game,” but as someone gay who prefers not to be used as a marketing prop for disingenuous corporate pandering, I’ll be sure to avoid it in the future.
