Retired Army infantry officer Sean Parnell says critical race theory ‘dangerous’ inside ‘our military’

Retired U.S. Army captain and Pennsylvania candidate for the U.S. Senate Sean Parnell blasted Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley on Saturday for the top military commander’s embrace of the highly controversial critical race theory.

In an interview with Fox News’s Dan Bongino, Parnell railed against the Marxist-based ideology, which teaches that all U.S. institutions are racist symbols of white supremacy, while clapping back at Milley for defending it during testimony before the House Armed Services Committee last week.

As he introduced the segment, Bongino noted that Milley also admitted to reading and studying the works of revolutionaries Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, and Mao Zedong so he could better understand a potential enemy, but he framed critical race theory as being portrayed as something positive and a “guiding light” for troops, which he notes is “a big difference.”

Parnell agreed, adding that CRT is inherently self-destructive to the country and will harm unit cohesion in a multi-ethnic force.

“Critical race theory, the whole premise of it is teaching people that America is a bad place, our systems are somehow inherently flawed and racist,” Parnell began, adding that “there are incredible national security implications in doing this.”

“Can you imagine what it would be like teaching the biggest, best military in the world to dislike the country that they’re serving? People serve this country, Dan, for ideals. People are willing to die for ideals,” the combat vet continued.

“And so, when you erode the idea of American exceptionalism or the idea that America is the brightest beacon of freedom the world has ever known, boy, that’s a dangerous concept,” he continued.

“And critical race theory shouldn’t be anywhere near our military because it just undermines unit cohesion completely.”

Bongino, in acknowledging that Parnell has served many months under fire, suggested that military members in combat aren’t concerned with or interested in the skin color or background of their comrades.

“It’s dangerous,” Parnell responded. “I was in Afghanistan for 485 days, the longest combat deployment in Global War on Terror history, heavy combat during all of that time, 85 percent casualty rate, some of my men were wounded twice, I was wounded myself.

“And we had northerners serving next to southerners, black next to white, Christian next to atheists, Democrats next to Republicans,” he added. “It didn’t matter where you came from, you learn to look past those many differences.

“There were no hyphenated Americans with us on the mountains in Afghanistan, just Americans. Galvanized under a common banner, fighting for a common mission,” Parnell said.

He added that in combat, men and women learn that, as Americans, they can “accomplish anything,” noting further “critical race theory undermines and undoes all of that, and we have to stop it.”

Later, Parnell suggested that if Milley can’t wrap his mind around the harmful nature of CRT, he shouldn’t remain in his position.

“If the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, if he doesn’t understand how poisonous, how divisive, how caustic critical race theory is — if he doesn’t see the threat for what it is, then I think he should consider resigning from his post because he’s clearly not fit to lead,” Parnell concluded.
