New findings from two Washington Post “reporters” seem to suggest that Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), is guilty of lying to Congress.

In a mostly anti-Trump book to be released on June 29th, “journalists” Yasmeen Abutaleb and Damian Paletta inadvertently reveal that Fauci resisted when then-President Donald Trump ordered him last year to cancel the NIH’s research grant to EcoHealth Alliance, as reported by Fox News.

EcoHealth Alliance is the sketchy NGO that’s been accused of having funded the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s controversial “gain of function” research projects — including allegedly the GOF project that led to the creation of the coronavirus.

Fauci “reluctantly agreed” to the order only after essentially being threatened with termination.

“NIH director Francis Collins and Fauci received notice that Trump wanted to formally announce in a 5:00 p.m. press conference that the grant had been terminated,” an excerpt from the book reads, as reported by Fox News.

“Collins and Fauci told the White House and [the Department of Health and Human Services] that they were not sure the NIH actually had the authority to terminate a peer-reviewed grant in the middle of a budget cycle. The HHS general counsel told them to do it anyway and made clear it was a direct order from the president, implying that their jobs were on the line if they didn’t comply. Fauci and Collins reluctantly agreed to cancel the grant.”

Collins is the head of the National Institutes of Health (NHS), which is the parent agency of NIAID.

According to Fox News, the book goes on to offer quotes from a conversation that Fauci had with longtime friend and HIV/AIDs activist Peter Staley, who had no position within the Trump administration, about the then-president’s order.

  • Staley: “What do you mean? You can’t cancel a grant like this.”
  • Fauci: “What do you want me to do?”
  • Staley: “Can’t you and Collins threaten to resign over this?”
  • Fauci: “You want us both to resign over a $3.7 million grant?”
  • Staley: “You’re right, you’re right. That’s not what you resign over.”

The book further reveals that both Collins and Fauci were also pressured by “many members of the scientific community” to resign.

All this happened in April 2020.

Now fast-forward to June of 2020, when Fauci testified before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

During the hearing, he was asked by Rep. Marc Veasey, a Democrat, about why the Trump administration had asked him to rescind the grant to EcoHealth.

He replied by pleading ignorance and claiming that the grant was “canceled because the NIH was told to cancel it” and that he didn’t “know the reason” for the then-president’s order.

But his close involvement with the grant’s revocation and his close ties to EcoHealth Alliance founder Dr. Peter Daszak suggest he wasn’t being truthful.

In fact, months before Fauci even testified before Congress, Daszak sent him an email thanking him for pushing back on the theory that the coronavirus had originated in the Wuhan Institute of Virology and blaming all the hubbub over EcoHealth Alliance’s funding of GOF research on Fox News.

“I just wanted to say a personal thank you on behalf of our staff and collaborators, for publicly standing up and stating that the scientific evidence supports a natural origin for COVID-19 from a bat-to-human spillover, not a lab release from the Wuhan Institute of Virology,” Daszak wrote.

“From my perspective, your comments are brave, and coming from your trusted voice, will help dispel the myths being spun around the virus’s origins,” he added

The evidence against Fauci is overwhelming enough that some Republicans have begun calling for his ouster.

“Dr. Fauci is so obsessed with maintaining his own relevance and downplaying President Trump’s role in combatting this crisis that he’s once again been caught lying,” Georgia Rep. Buddy Carter said in a statement to Fox News.

“We need someone leading the pandemic response and our investigation into its origins who is more concerned with the truth than their own PR campaign. It’s time for Dr. Fauci to go.”

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise meanwhile noted that “there are many unanswered questions that can only be answered with a full investigation by Congress.”

Yet Congress would rather keep investigating the Jan. 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol than the coronavirus pandemic that killed over half a million Americans.

“It is perplexing that Nancy Pelosi refuses to allow any formal investigation into the origins of COVID. Without a real complete and transparent investigation … we have not been able to get the answers the American people deserve,” Scalise said.

According to Fox News, “Scalise and more than 200 House Republicans have called on Speaker Nancy Pelosi to direct committee chairs to investigate the origins of the virus and devote congressional investigatory resources to examining claims that the novel coronavirus pandemic stemmed from a lab leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology which the Chinese Communist Party ‘covered’ up.”
