The problem with Democrats is that they live in their own reality, seeing the world through a lens that serves their political agenda. But then, truth is the first casualty when political propaganda is the order of the day.
Nowhere was this more apparent than in a Senate hearing room this week, when the mayor of Washington, D.C., Muriel Bowser, claimed that the city saw “one night” of rioting in 2020.
(The claim that may actually have some merit, given that Democrats tend to justify rioting as simply allowing protesters space to “destroy.” Just ask former Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.)
Bowser was being grilled by Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., who asked: “Madame Mayor, can you answer the question. Do you have an estimate of the property damage during the summer riots?”
“I know that we had one night of rioting in the district in the summer,” Bowser said, adding the District of Columbia saw “dozens of people arrested over the last year.”
Johnson’s line of questioning centered on the “equal administration of justice,” as he proceeded to ask the mayor if those arrested for the riots were still being detained, as are many of the Jan. 6 rioters at the U.S. Capitol. He also asked if authorities pursued last year’s rioters in their home states, as was the case with those who breached the Capitol in January.
Mayor Bowser had no answers for the senator’s questions, but her claim of one night of rioting stood out.
According to ABC7 News, DC code states: “A riot in the District of Columbia is a public disturbance involving an assemblage of five or more persons which by tumultuous and violent conduct or the threat thereof creates grave danger of damage or injury to property or persons.”
George Floyd died in Minneapolis while in police custody on May 25, 2020.
The White House was placed on lockdown on May 29 when hundreds of protesters gathered outside. Secret Service was concerned enough to move then-President Trump and his family to the Presidential Emergency Operations Center, an underground bunker, for about an hour.

CNN reported that DC Chief of Police Peter Newsham said Metropolitan Police had arrested 17 people on the night of May 30, and 11 MPD officers were injured during the protests that night.

It was on June 1, that Trump and a number of senior administration officials walked from the White House to St. John’s Episcopal Church — this being the moment when the media erroneously reported that law enforcement forcibly cleared the park of protesters to accommodate the president.
Police did use tear gas and other riot control tactics to clear Lafayette Square, but it was just reported this month that this was done to allow contractors to install a fence safely around the White House, not because Trump wanted to visit the church.
In fact, ABC7 reported that between May 30 and June 1, 23 people were arrested and another 35 were arrested in August, charged with felony riot acts.
Perhaps, we can chalk Bowser’s suspect memory to selective recall…
