A Rhode Island Democrat who downplayed last year’s Black Lives Matter riots is attempting to censure those of his Republican colleagues who disagree with the increasingly dubious left-wing narrative that the Jan. 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol had been an insurrection versus just a riot.

Rep. David Cicilline “is asking his colleagues to sign onto a resolution that calls for censuring members who claim the fateful day was ‘not an insurrection’ and who are engaging in other efforts to undermine the ‘damage that was done,'” according to Politico,

Politico filed the report Friday after obtaining an advanced copy of the yet un-publicly released resolution.

In not referring to the riot using Cicilline’s preferred terminology, Republicans have “recklessly disregarded the future harm they could cause by legitimizing a violent attack on our democratic institutions — a conscious and harmful decision calling into question their dedication to their role as Representatives,” the resolution reads.

Judging by the Democrat lawmaker’s tweets, he perceives himself as an oracle of truth:

Cicilline is reportedly particularly incensed at recent comments made by Reps. Andrew Clyde, Jody Hice and Paul Gosar.

“There was an undisciplined mob. There were some rioters, and some who committed acts of vandalism. But let me be clear, there was no insurrection and to call it an insurrection in my opinion, is a bold faced lie,” Clyde said on the House floor Wednesday.

“Watching the TV footage of those who entered the Capitol, and walk through Statuary Hall showed people in an orderly fashion staying between the stanchions and ropes taking videos and pictures, you know. If you didn’t know that TV footage was a video from January the sixth, you would actually think it was a normal tourist visit,” he added.

He may have been jokingly trying to compare the Jan. 6th riot to the litany of previous Democrat- and media-approved riots that erupted at the U.S. Capitol during the Black Lives Matter riots of 2020.

Speaking of which, during one of those riots, Cicilline mocked then-President Donald Trump for seeking refuge in the White House bunker:

During the so-called “protest,” rioters set fires near the White House, attacked law enforcement officers and tried to burn down St. John’s Church:

Meanwhile, this week Hice rightly noted that deceased former U.S. Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick had died from “natural” causes and not at the hands of the rioters.

Pulitizer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald argued that the reason that Democrats and their media had stuck with the Sicknick story til it was finally debunked in late April was to purposefully portray the Jan. 6th riot as something far more sinister.

“It was weaponized over and over to depict the pro-Trump mob not as just violent but barbaric and murderous, because if Sicknick weren’t murdered by them, then nobody was (without Sicknick, the only ones killed were four pro-Trump supporters: two who died of a heart attack, one from an amphetamine overdose, and the other, Ashli Babbitt, who was shot point blank in the neck by Capitol Police despite being unarmed),” he wrote for Substack last month.

“So crucial was this fairy tale about Sicknick that it made its way into the official record of President Trump’s impeachment trial in the Senate, and they had Joe Biden himself recite from the script, even as clear facts mounted proving it was untrue,” he added.

It’s not clear why Cicilline takes issue with Hice’s comments, but according to Politico, he does.

As for Gosar, this week he described the rioters as “peaceful patriots” and complained that the fatal shooting of rioter Ashli Babbitt was an execution.

While his “peaceful patriots” remark was demonstrably false, it was no different than the false claims of “peaceful protesters” echoed by Democrats and their media allies for months on end last year.

In fact, after a group of so-called “peaceful protesters” attacked U.S. Capitol Police officers during a riot on June 1st, 2020, three days after the then-president was forced to seek refuge in a bunker, Cicilline himself falsely described the riot as a “peaceful protest”:

Fact-check: FALSE.

“At approximately 6:33 pm, violent protestors on H Street NW began throwing projectiles including bricks, frozen water bottles and caustic liquids. The protestors also climbed onto a historic building at the north end of Lafayette Park that was destroyed by arson days prior,” then-Capitol Police chief Gregory T. Monahan reported in a statement on June 2nd.

He added, “Intelligence had revealed calls for violence against the police, and officers found caches of glass bottles, baseball bats and metal poles hidden along the street.”

While Cicilline is right to note in his tweets that “truth matters,” unfortunately it appears that the truth doesn’t matter to HIM personally.
