Sometimes, if we pay close attention, the news has a way of reporting itself amid all the partisan sniping that passes for journalism these days.
CNN likes to boast about its coverage of the day’s events, though the network’s efforts often amount to little more than a caricature of itself. A notable irony from CNN lately has been an obsession with attacking rival Fox News — rival may be a stretch, given that Fox News frequently trounces CNN in the ratings.
However, as seen over the weekend, while CNN is fixated on criticizing Fox News, the rival network is busy reporting the news.
A screenshot of the two networks taken at almost the exact same moment showed CNN’s new primadonna weekend anchor Jim Acosta covering Fox News reporting on the cancel culture, while Fox News was actually covering the news.
Fox News foreign correspondent Trey Yingst is featured in the screenshot reporting from Jerusalem on heavy clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police in the holy city.
Hamas has fired a number of rockets on Jerusalem as violence has ramped up in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
“To give you a sense of what it means for the region, I’ve been covering this for a few years now,” Yingst said earlier in the week. “There have only been I would say two or three times where rockets were fired toward Jerusalem. And every time that happened there were days of conflict. One such time had to do in 2019 when the Israelis took out a senior Islamic Jihad rocket commander. We are likely to see in the coming days, air strikes from the Israeli military in Gaza and potentially limited ground operations.”
But back to CNN, it’s noteworthy that chief media correspondent Brian Stelter likes to talk about the network having more news bureaus around the world, yet with critical events happening on the international stage, CNN is busy covering Fox News.
A phenomenon that didn’t escape the notice of astute social media users.
“It’s classic: As Fox is reporting this news, CNN is talking about Fox News complaints over cancel culture. Who’s the real news channel?” tweeted one user.

But you have to excuse Stelter, as he took a deep dive into the effect “Foxitis” has on the country on Sunday’s show, as well as targeting Fox News host Tucker Carlson for allegedly pushing vaccine misinformation on his audience.
Carlson dares to ask relevant questions no one else is talking about, like how many people really are dying from the newly developed vaccine. But then, without Donald Trump to kick around anymore, CNN is in desperate need of a Class A villain.
The drop CNN is experiencing is profound. On Friday, not one program broke 900K total viewers. Prime averaged less than 800K overall.
For comparison, the network averaged 2.74 million viewers in January, so we're talking about more than two-thirds of the audience – gone. https://t.co/a4f14QXStm

All of which may explain the numbers seen in the latest Rasmussen Reports survey, where Fox News is well out in front of its cable news competition with 41% of likely voters saying that they tune in.
Compare that to CNN, which comes in at 25% of likely voters saying they “generally watch” the network, compared to 21% for MSNBC.
“It may be that the biggest loser in last year’s election wasn’t a political candidate, but CNN, which has seen its ratings drop precipitously since former President Donald Trump left office in January,” Rasmussen said in the survey analysis.
“Those numbers are a sharp reversal from four years ago, when Trump’s presidency proved to be a ratings gold mine for CNN. In a June 2017 survey, 47% of regular cable news viewers said they generally watched CNN, compared to 33% for Fox News and 16% for MSNBC,” the polling firm added.
