House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy was caught on a hot mic telling Fox News host Steve Doocy how he truly feels about embattled Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney.
During an appearance Tuesday on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends,” he reiterated what’s already known, which is that a number of Cheney’s colleagues in Congress are growing increasingly fed up with her antics and considering making another attempt to oust her from her leadership role as the chair of the House Republican Conference.
However, the Republican congressman abstained from rendering a judgment himself. Instead he framed everything through the lens of the House Republican Caucus, which is what he’s been doing since the war against Cheney began in late January.
Before the segment even started, however, he was heard on a hot mic voicing his real thoughts.
“I think she’s got real problems. I’ve had it with … I’ve had it with her. You know, I’ve lost confidence. Well, someone just has to bring a motion, but I assume that will probably take place,” he said.
McCarthy’s hot mic comments were first uncovered by Axios.
In a statement to Axios, a spokesperson for Cheney responded to his comments by reiterating the Wyoming congresswoman’s concerns about the 2020 election.
“This is about whether the Republican Party is going to perpetuate lies about the 2020 election and attempt to whitewash what happened on Jan. 6. Liz will not do that. That is the issue,” the spokesperson said.
Actually, McCarthy said otherwise. During the “Fox & Friends” segment, he pushed back on the idea that Cheney is facing backlash because she’d chosen to vote to impeach then-President Donald Trump in January.
“There’s no concern about how she voted on impeachment. That decision has been made. I have heard from members concerned about her ability to carry out the job as conference chair, to carry out the message. We all need to be working as one if we’re able to win the majority. Remember, majorities are not given, they are earned,” he said.
“And that’s about the message about going forward: Combating Joe Biden, what he’s done to this border by making it unsecure and what’s coming across, just what he’s doing here about small businesses, not opening schools, not getting us back to work, back to health, back to normal. That’s the message we should be talking about,” he added.
This is also the same same thing that one Republican lawmaker, who chose to remain anonymous, told The Hill over the weekend.
“It’s at a boiling point. This isn’t about Liz Cheney wanting to impeach Donald Trump; this isn’t about Donald Trump at all. It’s about Liz Cheney being completely out of sync with the majority of our conference,” the anonymous lawmaker said.
Of course, it’s possible that McCarthy is the anonymous lawmaker.

All this comes as House Republicans are reportedly preparing to try and oust Cheney by the end of the month.
“There is no way that Liz will be conference chair by month’s end. When there’s a vote, it won’t be a long conference; it will be fast. Everyone knows the outcome,” a source described as a key ally of McCarthy said to The Hill on Monday.
“This is a broad range of lawmakers who have had it with her. She’s a liability, and McCarthy’s as fed up as the rest of us that she is focused on the past rather than winning back the House,” another source insisted.
According to one source who spoke with Reuters, the vote could come as early as May 12th, which is next Wednesday.

What’s unclear is how McCarthy will choose to handle the vote this time around. He held the last vote in early February with secret ballots, meaning that the 145 House Republicans who voted to keep Cheney on the leadership team got to stay hidden.
Because of his past decision, McCarthy has faced accusations that he was one of the Republicans who’d voted to protect Cheney.
Hey GOP leader we don’t forget your secret ballot vote you hid from the voters so they couldn’t see who voted for Liz Chaney to keep her high position in the house…You had your chance to do what voters wanted and you failed miserably

Pressure is now growing for him to hold another vote — but one out in the open for everybody to see, lest Republicans feel emboldened to stick by Cheney once again (*Language warning):
Schedule a new vote on Liz Cheney.
No secret ballot & @GOPLeader stay out of it.
No pleading speeches in her defense.

Are you RINO pussies gonna hide behind another secret ballot for Cheney? You’re next for early retirement. Time for all the spineless establishment hacks to clear out.

Dear @GOPLeader ,
Schedule a new vote on Liz Cheney.
No secret ballot and no speeches in her defense.
After she is ousted, you need to step down. We need new America First leadership. We must win in 2022.

It will come down to if it will be a secret ballot or not. If gop house reps can keep their vote hidden, there’s a good chance that she will win as before.
