U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney’s days as a leader in the Republican Party look to be numbered.
That’s according to a “key” ally of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.. who spoke to The Hill on the condition of anonymity.
“There is no way that Liz will be conference chair by month’s end,” the source stated. “When there’s a vote, it won’t be a long conference; it will be fast. Everyone knows the outcome.”
Cheney is the third-ranked Republican in the House and remains a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump, who still holds considerable influence in the party. The Hill reported that top allies of McCarthy claimed she repeatedly contradicts the party’s message under the GOP leader and its efforts to take back the House in next year’s midterm elections.
“This is a broad range of lawmakers who have had it with her,” a second McCarthy ally insisted. “She’s a liability, and McCarthy’s as fed up as the rest of us that she is focused on the past rather than winning back the House.”
And, according to the online political news site, it’s not just the right-fringe that’s now targeting Cheney, as the article said “senior lawmakers in the 154-member Republican Study Committee, the largest GOP caucus on Capitol Hill, have been openly critical of Cheney and are now trying to orchestrate her removal.”
One thing is certain, the development helps distract from McCarthy’s own problems, as Fox News host Tucker Carlson turned the heat up to blasting with a follow-up story Monday night about the GOP leader apparently being “roommates” with liberal pollster Frank Luntz.
The Hill reported on Saturday that the Trump-wing of the party was fed-up with Cheney, the Wyoming congresswoman, who recently said the former president isn’t the leader of the party — while not ruling out a bid of her own for the White House.
“It’s at a boiling point,” an anonymous GOP lawmaker said of the frustration. “This isn’t about Liz Cheney wanting to impeach Donald Trump; this isn’t about Donald Trump at all. It’s about Liz Cheney being completely out of sync with the majority of our conference.”
If there is pressure on Cheney she isn’t yielding to it, as seen Monday when she clapped back at Trump over a statement early in the day that read: “The Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020 will be, from this day forth, known as THE BIG LIE!”

“Cloistered at his Florida resort,” as The Hill characterized it, Trump answered in a statement, predicting Cheney will not win another election in the state of Wyoming.
“Heartwarming to read new polls on big-shot warmonger Liz Cheney of the great State of Wyoming,” he said. “She is so low that her only chance would be if vast numbers of people run against her which, hopefully, won’t happen. They never liked her much, but I say she’ll never run in a Wyoming election again!”
