The working relationship between “The Five” co-hosts Greg Gutfeld and Juan Williams continues to unravel in real time.
In the latest dustup that veered off from a longer discussion about mask-wearing guidelines, Williams appeared to laugh when Gutfeld implied that the federal government should instead be addressing the surge in violent crime across the country rather than functioning as the mask police.
“Juan, only you would laugh about murder,” Gutfeld accused his TV counterpart.
The Fox News Channel quintet were in the midst of discussion, in part, about new CDC guidelines that vaccinated people need not wear masks outside. Dagen McDowell noted that public mask mandates should be abolished.
Williams, who was moderating that segment, chimed in that President Joe Biden was winning the war against the virus, but he should give more credit to former President Donald Trump for the vaccine rollout because “lots of people, picking up on Dagen’s point, who are refusing to get vaccinated, are older Trump supporters.”
That’s when an incensed Gutfeld went off on his ant-Trump liberal colleague who apparently had that without-evidence talking point in his back pocket.
“I did not even hear Dagen say that…Dagen, what did you say about Trump supporters not getting vaccination? I totally missed that. is there something wrong with my earpiece, because I did not hear that point, Juan. Is that in some kind of study…?
“Let’s s move on from that totally loaded and false question,” Gutfeld added.
When Williams said he could clarify, Gutfeld fired back that he’s not really interested, “because you already played a little game with that line.”
Gutfeld then went into a full rant mode that culminated in the discussion about crime.
“Here’s the point…It’s the American public are leading this discussion, right? Because they always do. We didn’t ask to become the United States. We became the United States, and likewise, we aren’t gonna wait for the media or some wonks to tell us it is 100 percent safe. We understand the common sense, right?
“Outside – no mask; you want to wear one, go for it, no one cares. If you’re vaccinated and you are inside, no mask, but if you are in a crowded place indoors, and you don’t want people to stare at you, wear a mask. But that’s up to you,” the Fox News host went on.
“But if you are in church and you’re vaccinated, don’t wear a mask. If you are in the car alone, no mask; you look stupid. If you’re jogging, if you’re cycling, if you’re horseback riding, no freaking mask. If you are going into a restaurant and you don’t want the hostess to play cop when you walk in, wear the mask,” Gutfeld said.
He added that it’s the government that has created “confusion and unnecessary conflict” over facial coverings with needless regulations.
Gutfeld went on to accuse the feds under Biden of misplaced priorities.
“You starting creating little public police officers that run around and like a pandemic cop, you’re gonna have tons of problems. Lastly, what kills me about this is, this isn’t the biggest pandemic problem, it’s the smallest one, which should be handled by us; we handle the small ones, government handles the big ones,” he contended. “What’s the big one? The national crime wave, right? We have murders, we have assaults. we have grand larcenies.”
At that point, Williams laughed, prompting outrage from Gutfeld.
“Are you laughing about it? Juan, only you would laugh about murder,” he said.
Williams responded that “there is no crime; this is one of your…fantasies.”
“Why don’t you read the stats? Okay, okay; that’s my fantasy. Are you gonna call it a fantasy the 500% increase in hate crime? Juan, that’s on you. If you think people suffering is funny, good for you. You’re on your own,” Gutfeld concluded.

Williams then tossed it to another panelist to change the subject. “The Five” crew are operating remotely, so it’s likely going to be an awkward reunion when Gutfeld and Williams eventually find themselves back in the same NYC studio.
Street crime has skyrocketed in many of America’s liberal-run big cities amidst the defund-the-police movement and other considerations that have discouraged pro-active policing.
Although it’s not clear how Gutfeld came up with the “500 percent” stat, according to the Stop AAPI Hate coalition, nearly 4,000 such incidents targeting Asian Americans have occurred from March 19, 2020, through the end of February 2021.
